Ovarian Cyst

Hello!
My husband and I are trying to have babies. I started working with a fertility clinic and they sent me to have some tests done. I had some type of X-ray of my uterus and I wasn't scheduled for an appointment with the fertility doctor until five weeks later. I thought everything was f ine, but when we got to the clinic, the doctor informed me I was going to have an ultrasound. He said the X-ray showed a grothw in my left ovary. The growth is the size of a "softball", he said. He suggested I would wait to have it removed, just in case it would go away by itself after my menstruation. I have an appointment again on June 17th. That is more than two months after the X-ray, and five weeks after my ultrasound. He says it doesn't look like cancer, but he is not sure. He was thingking I could have surgery in July, that would be three full months since he found out I had a growth.I am really scare and I don't know what to do. Should I see a different doctor? How come my doctor cannot be more specific about what I have?
Thanks,

Maggie

I agree with Sandy , 95% of cysts are benign, I would however get a second opinion if I were you personally because a softball size cyst is very large !!!

Best wishes Angie

Hi,
First things first I always say--- At the top of this page under "Health Pages" there is a wealth of information about cysts.. all types. Cysts are actually fairly common in younger women and many times, they simply resolve themselves... but the one you have appears to be fairly large. Secondly , are you seeing a Gynecologist ? It's important that you do. Also, did you have a regular ultrasound or a Transvaginal Ultra sound? The only way to be absolutely positive as to what it may be is through pathology. I had a very small cyst that they thought was solid and turned out to be a simple cyst.
If you would feel better getting a second opinion, I think you should do so for your peace of mind if nothing else. But, they will surely know more by the 17th. Please let us know how it works out, and try not to worry. Most cysts are benign..

Take care,
Sandy
