Ovarian/Dermoid cysts

I guess I have no choice but to live with this pain. I have no insurance, do not have the money for insurance. My husaband is in the housing industry and work is slow. I went to the ER several times. They discovered I have a possible Dermoid cyst. I have contacted every agency in our county, to no avail. I even went outside our county and I thought I was finally going to get some help. I went a hour to see the doctor, she told me to come back for my surgery consultation. She told me they could remove my cysts and tie my tubes all in one shot! I was so happy, I was finally going to get some relief! I go back to the Dr., see a different doc, she tells me b/c I don't live in the county where their office is located that they cannot operate on me. I need to seek help within my own county!!! What a joke! As you can tell, I have a very crappy attitude this morning. I am in pain. It started Sat. afternoon and has not let up. I am tempted to go back to the ER., but they cannot help me long term. They just give me pain meds for a couple of days and send me on my way. Plus, the bills from the ER are adding up, soon they won't see me there, either! If everyone could get health insurance people like me would not be a strain on our already strained economy.  I am just tired of this affecting my daily life. How fast do dermoids grow? I guess it depends on the person and the cyst? I just know I am hurting today like whatever is inside me is worse than ever!!!!

The clinic I originally visited outside my county has the same clinic down the road from me. Months ago when I called them, they said they did' nt staff Ob-gyn's (thats is what made me go out of county to begin with). I called the local clinic (again) yesterday to see if maybe they staff the type of doc I need; this time they said yes!!! I have an appointment Tuesday @ 9:00 A.M.! Yay! Maybe I will get some relief very soon!  Thanks Y'all!

Are u anywhere near knoxville, they have a Women's Hospital there that does gyn surgeries and does laparoscopies. It's on the list, The Baptist Womens Hospital.
I know a woman who just had surgery recently and decided to use a hospital 3 hours away from her home. She's recovering now but I'm sure she'll be on the boards as soon as she feels better. She's not in your state, but I guess in some places that's the only alternative. She stayed in a hotel the night before the surgery so she could have her tests done and then again the night before the surgery.
Try calling there and see if they offer a women's clinic or a sliding scale for uninsured patients. Ask to speak to a social worker too.

Here's a list of all the hospitals in Tennessee I found on the web, it has all the phone numbers too. I don't know how old it is or anything about them, but maybe you can call the ones nearest to you and ask if they have an gyn clinic and surgery center. I hope it helps.http://theagapecenter.com/Hospitals/Tennessee.htm

It is very frustrating! I have researched the internet and I found these hospitals and clinic operated by a company named Hali-burton( I think that is it). The only place I found that Are affliated with them and their sliding scale is the clinic in Nashville( not in my county). They have a clinic right down the road with the same name as the one in Nashville: The Matthew Walker Comprehensive clinic. But the clinic down the road does not staff Ob-Gyns!!!!! It is crazy here. Clarksville Tn. was voted the worst place to raise a family b/c of our lack of funds for schools and health care!!! Maybe I should move?!?!  LOL

I live in N.Y. and here the hospital services depend on what kind of insurance you have. If you have private coverage, you can go to most hospitals, if your in an HMO, then you can go to the hospitals that are in your plan. If your on Medicaid or have no insurance, then you go to what are considered state funded hospitals, or public hospitals. Some teaching hospitals will take Medicaid patients if they have a clinical services available, and those are the best to get care in if your underinsured. If your on Medicaid or have no insurance, then you see whatever doctor is assigned to you and also surgeon. There are six month waits for specialty care at most public hospitals due to the amount of uninsured or non-citizens waiting for heath care. There are what are called Urgent care centers in those hospitals for conditions that are not true emergencies, but are serious enough to not wait for clinic appointments.
My only advise to you would be to try to find out what hospitals are state funded and serve the local community. You may have to go to the nearest big city if you live in a rural community. You cannot be refused treatment as your a state resident and you can't get the services you need in your area. I know you said that you were told that if it's not your county then you can't get treatment, but I know for sure that here in N.Y. it's state law that they treat you. If you have to, call your local congressperson or state representative and ask them to help you to be directed to the correct community services. Tell them that you can't afford to pay for the surgery but don't qualify for state aid. There are places that charge on a sliding scale and if you can't pay them after the surgery, at least you got it done. This is the only information I could think of to try to help you and I know how frustrating it is not to be able to get good services, I'm waiting since April to have my surgery done and it just got postponed until October because the O.R.'s are all booked up through this month and September and I missed my surgery date for August that I waited 3 months for due to a screw up with another agencies negligence.
Let us know if you get any answers.

I do understand about ER's because I had emergency surgery in June and as I was lying in my bed afterwards, the finance dept. called me for payment. I couldn't believe it - that was with insurance!  I told them they could call me at home after I get there! Maybe someone else will come along that lives in Tennessee and can help you better. I feel for you. It just isn't right!

I live in Tennessee. Every doctor I have called requires payment up front, as soon as I mention payments their attitude completely changes. I have went to Dept. of Human Services, I don't meet their requirements for TennCare: I am not pregnant, do not have breast or cervical cancer, so they turn me down over and over again. The health dept. told me they cannot help me either. They don't even do surgeries or even ultrasounds!!! I have went to the ER twice this year already and in debt to them up to my eyeballs. At the ER, the finacial counseler  comes in your room before the Dr. does and almost demands some sort of payment right then and there. If I had $200.00 I would go to an Ob-gyn, not the ER. The pain has subsided somewhat but I still feel alot of pressure and bloating way down in my pelvic area this morning. I just get tired of hurting!

You don't say where you live, so it's kind of hard to understand what happened with the different doctors. In Florida, it doesn't matter what county you live in. You can go to any county to see a doctor.  So I am thinking, go back to the original doctor that said she can do the surgery and tie your tubes? I am somewhat confused by your post and would like to help.  But definitely go back to the ER if your pain increases quite a bit. They will help you no matter what. Remember, that as long as you pay something each month, even as little as $5, they have to accept that. Do not let anyone bully you about paying.
Good luck.

If your pain dramatically increases do get to the ER.  You might have burst or twisted and that is a medical emergency.  Is there no way you can get into a gyn and find out the cost of surgery and perhaps you can handle that?  What state are you in?

Fortunately from what I have learned dermoids do not either grow or shrink.  They stay roughly the same size.  I did have diarreaah yesterday all day, no pain however and I think I may have eaten something funny.  I'm also pregnant so my system is altered at the moment.  Hard to say if it is related to the cyst...
