Ovarian Remnant Syndrome and adnexal masses

by Janice826, Dec 12, 2008 10:48AM
I had a ovarian cystectomy in 1986, total abdominal hysterectomy in 1994, bilateral salipingoophrectomy and ovarian cysts removed in 2005.  This year I had a CAT scan for another medical issue and it was discovered that I had masses both right and left adenxal area.  I went to the Cancer Institute of NJ for a consultation with a GYN/Oncologist.  After numerous tests including MRI, Ultrasounds, CA-125 (negative) and I had lab work done which indicated I was premenopausal.  I had a 7 hour complicated procedure to remove cysts no cancer was found.  The final diagnosis is Bilateral complex cystic adnexal masses secondary to bilateral ovarian remnant syndrome.  Left ovarian cyst adenoma.  Extensive pelvic adhesions.  The procedure was Exploratory laparotomy with resection of bilateral adnexal masses, extensive lysis of adhesions, bilateral ureterolysis with retroperitoneal dissection.  Cystoscopy and stent insurtion bilaterally.  The pathology report reports A. Left Adnexal mass excision: Ovary with benign srous cyst, corpora albicantia and follicular cysts, some with hemorrhage.  B. Right Adnexal Mass, distal margin:  dense fibroconnective tissue, no cyst seen.  C. Right adnexal mass, excision:  portion of ovary and fallopian tube with tubo-ovarian adhesions, benign paratubal cyst and overy with corpora albicantia and D. Adhesion removal fibrovascular tissue.

My question is with the information provided was there ovaries left or just remants?  In 2005 my doctor then should have removed them all.  I am very conflicted with the results and that I had to have a very serious procedure.  What is your opinion.

Thank you,
Janice

I have no experience or knowledge of your experience, but I was curious whether your operation for ovary and tube removal in 2005 was via laparoscopic surgery or open laparotomy?
