Ovarian cyst postmenopausal

I am a 56 year old post menopausal woman.  A small ovarian cyst was found on transvaginal ultrasound one year ago.  Report says it is small and benign.  I have had 4 other ultrasounds since then and am told it is about the same size (1.9-2.9 cm-- changes but stays small). I have some groin pain on that side, but doctor says cyst is too small to cause pain.  I am uncomfortable just leaving it alone, but also not sure about removing it if it really is benign.  Should I have it removed or trust them that after 5 ultrasounds, it is benign?  Most recent ultrasound was last month.

Now that I've calmed down, I want to tell you about a gadget that I got from my pharmacy. It's called the Vial of Life, It's a big pill bottle that can fit into it, all of your important emergency medical information. You place it in your refrigerator so it won't get lost. On the fridge is a magnent, on the front door is a sticker, for women that have more than one doctor, a psychologist perhaps, this is a pretty handy thing to have around. It's free and if you can't get one from your pharmacy, here is the name of the foundation, it's Medic One Foundation at 206-744-9425 or visit their website at www.mediconefoundation.org. Demand that your drug store carry it, at least thats one place that they still listen to women. Here in Washington state, go to your local Bartell Drugs. Thank you, Sharalynn.

I'm so mad! Its like a woman has to be brought into the hospital on a strecher before anybody pay's attention. They even see the damn problems and send you home makeing out that your pain is insignificant! If you were a man, oh hell yes they'd think that damn little hunk of strange flesh was important. Hell they'd be all over it. I hope there is s place in pergatory for lessons in pain to these doctors that act this way. If anybody is a judge of pain- it's a woman, we suck it up and march on everyday with ignored and defered symptoms because we're so busy taking care of everybody else and no one believes we hurt too. It's taken my own children years to come to terms with the fact I'm not Super Mom anymore. I 've been shot at, stalked, informed on drug dealers, but I can't get one flippin' doctor to take me seriously. What do you do? Go on a hunger strike, until your but on a gourney, so you can see a doctor.... ********, just get out your hot pad and hope to die, cause sister, nobody that matters (like doctors) care about your pain. Just take two asprin and go away. Makes me want to go on the war path!

I have the same similar. I am post menopause. The doctor diagnoised fibroids, cyst (r) side with fluid in my tube. I just couldn't stand the constant pain in my lower back with pelvic pressure. Sometimes I am so dizzy. Thank God for heating pads. I am using two of them.

Both my breasts and nipples are tender and a bump surfaced along side my nipple on the (r) breast. About a year ago I  discovered a lump on my left breast but I was told if it hurts...not to worry because breast cancer lumps and bumps do not cause pain. However, my doctor has scheduled an  ultrasound and diagnostic mammo... just have to wait 2 more weeks.

Hi,
If it is causing you discomfort and worrying you, I would opt for having it removed. I, too, am postmenopausal and had a small cyst last year. Rather than worrying about it and having it checked every 3 months or so, I chose to have the entire ovary removed, along with tube. It was done via laparoscopy which is usually done on an outpatient basis. Funny thing is that my cyst was small also, but it was causing pain.... I originally thought I had another attack of diverticulitis ..same location, same pain. When that was ruled out, went to my Gyn for annual .. The cyst was found through transvaginal ultrasound when I discussed this "pain".. Now, I was told the same thing-- cyst too small to cause the pain. However, once it was removed, the pain disappeared so ... you tell me..
And, not to cause you any worry, but they really can't be sure if it's benign or not until they do a path report with surgery. Most doctors though have a pretty good idea so I'm sure your Dr. is correct.. but to be 100% , it has to be examined pathologically. . After a year and still not increasing in size , I wouldn't worry too much. Plus all cysts are 95% benign.
Have you spoken to your Dr. about his/her willingness to perform the procedure? Let us know and try not to worry,
Sandy
