Ovarian cysts after TAH

Ovarian cysts after TAH

I am not sure where to begin, but I am having alot of discomfort from my right side.Pain, pulling etc.. due what my doc has found to be ovarian tissue with two 2cm cysts!! My right ovary and tube were removed in 06 due to a two approx. 7cm tumors which thank God where not cancerous, but did alot of damage. My right ovary bust and tore the tube all the way down to the uterus and I had internal bleeding, therefore of course everything had to be removed on the right side!!  A few months later there where also these cysts on the left side and fibroids so i had to have a TAH!!! How do these cysts grow after everything has been removed, and do I have to have surgery again? Or do these new cysts go away all by them self? my doc seems to be a bit overwhelmed with my situation.....

Thank you for your time and help!!

Hi,
It sounds like  what is known as ovarian remnant syndrome, this is where the ovaries are removed in surgery but a small piece of ovarian tissue is left behind and starts to grow . I do not know enough about this but I know that there is a lady on here called NYC lady (Pam) , who I believe has had this herself. I hope she or someone else with more knowledge will be along soon to help you . Sorry I can,t help you more .

Best wishes Angie

Thank you so much for your answer.....I am new here, so I will also look around for some more info, It's really hard when there is something going on in your body and the docs have a hard time telling you anything. I am really happy to have found this forum.

Thanks again
Susan

I too have ovarian remnant syndrome (ORS for short).  As the previous poster stated, when a small cell of ovarian tissue is left behind, it can start to grow and produce estrogen.  In turn, you can start to develope cysts again.  I have had 3 cyst rupture and now have a cyst that will be removed on July 17,  Since your cyst is small (although it can be very painful) your doctor may try to put you on Birth control pills to see if they can get the cyst to shrink and stop them from growing.  Did your doctor say if it was a simple cyst (fluid filled) or a complex (has septations, or solid)?  That may make a difference on what your doctor wants to do.  Are you seeing a gyn?  You may want ot ask if you can be referred to a gyn/onc (not that I think you have cancer, but because they have 3 years more training than a regular gyn)?  Have you had a CA125 done?  Please keep us posted on what you find out.  I hope I was able to help a little.

Hugs,
Kasie

Hi, thanks for your help. Well I have been on HRT since surgery in Aug 06, and the MRI has shown to be a cystic mass formation. Yes, I am seeing a GYN, he has been the one that has been there through  the other 4 surgery's, do you know about the risk of developing ovarian cancer with ORS? I was really hoping that I had all of these problems behind me once they did the last surgery, but I guess that was wishful thinking!! I have not had a CA125 done....I live in Germany, so I'm not sure if everything is done or shall I say called the same thing, but I will keep you posted on what I find out!!! Thanks again for your time and help.

Hugs back:-)
