Ovarian cysts!

Hi all, I'm a 35 year old woman in California upset with my OBGYN because it's taking too long to proceed with the next step. I've been on BC for about 4 months and still bleeding and hurting from ovarian cysts. It's to a point that it's gotten to be so painful that I've been to the ER once already. My doctor just want to do a hysterectomy and get it over with, I thought they were supposed to do the pill then laparoscopy, then hysterectomy. At this point all I want is a partial hysterectomy, I'm frustrated, in pain and just plain miserable. Women's body go through so much and it's worst when a male doctor doesn't want to understand that it's painful. I don't have an intimate, sexual life anymore, I'm bleeding a lot, my work is suffering and it's just painful. I hope I'm not the only one that is going through all this.

I'm in a similar boat also..  Never had normal cycles, started having major problems once i hit 15 estreme pain but no one could ever find anything until one day.....  there it was.. It wasn't all in my head, I wasn't just "pretending" to be in such pain. couldn't move sit stand walk bend roll over lay down my everything hurt!   there it was 6cm cyst on the rt ovary.!...  next thing i know i'm bein' giving a killer pain shot and have to be scheduled for surgery in the morning.  keep in mind we have to drive like 4 or more hours to the hospital but first we have to take a 2 hour trip to the closest pharmacy! lol...

Ok so i have the surgery. I'm 16.. They remove the large cyst rupture numerous smaller ones  and tell me my ovaries are like M&M's... there is a hard "shell" around my ovaries from all the scar tissue from cysts rupturing on me.  and most likely will never have kids.. yadiyadiyadi

I'm now 28  and I'm so sick of dealing with the constant pain and sick of the pills... ugh the damn pills..  and the pain pills..

So i guess that just leaves me one question..  To the ones that your dr's just wanna do the Hysterectomy......  Can I get me some names??!!??   Seriousely...   Cause all the dr's i find wanna do meds after meds after meds and oh ya  don't forget all the damn pain pills..."

I mean i feal bad for you that your dr wants to do that and you don't want it..  I got some dr names for you that are against hysterectomys...

Hook me up with some that are FOR them!

Hi,
I have had ovarian cysts since i was 11 years and have been on the birth control pill since then, im 24. I have had a 5 cm cycst on the right ovary that has just gone away after 5 months and now have a 4.4 cysts on the left, they just never seem to stop. I have seen my gyno and i am now going for a Cat scan next week, she hasnt really told me anything, but seening a gyno and getting a cat scan is something that need to be done. Does anyone know what serious complacations to cysts could be? could it lead to infertility? I am too totally lost with this all, no one seems to tell you what could possibly be going on.

I too have large ovarian cyst(10cm) and the pain is indescribable. I get the feeling people think its all in my mind as well. I can not pee, poo, walk, sit, bend without pain and if my hubby takes his trousers off i run for cover!!!. It has taken 10 month of agony to get this diagnosed(my gp thought it was my bowel.-Males!)and i have yet to see a gyny doc. So you are not along and if men had to give birth they would understand that women are made of sterner stuff and can take pain well. Hang in there and focus on an end to it all. By the way im 47 and had my womb removed when i was 25 so i will willingly give up my ovaries just to get back to a normal life.Take care and let us know what happens.Dawn

Birth control pills will not get rid of an ovarian cyst. The only thing that BC pills do is stop you from cycling, to try and give the cysts you already have a chance to reabsorb. However, they will only reabsorb if they are simple or hemmhoragic cysts. Anything else has to be removed.
I'm astounded at your gyn... he just wants to do a hyster without finding out anything??? That's just nuts. It's like he's telling you that 'oh, you have a cyst, let's just remove your entire reproductive system to get rid of it'. It's just overkill!
I'd get another opinion. If those cysts have not resolved in 4 months, then they are not going to resolve on their own, and a hyster is not a good solution when a normal laproscopic could remove the cysts and at least figure out what is going on in there. If a hyster is required by what they find, at least you'll know that that's the treatment you need, and not just your gyn taking the easy way out (for him... definately not the easy way for you).
Hang in there, and keep us posted!

Hello, you are all such an inspiration and I wish I would have found this site sooner...I know I would have felt better about my situation.

One and a half weeks ago, I had a tubal ligation done and the doctor was concerned about my right ovary.  It is the size (maybe even slightly larger) than my uterus.  It is purplish/gray in color and is basically enlarged. I have worried myself sick thinking this is really big until finding this site and realizing what you all have been going through and just how big a cyst can get. Basically, they just told me that it could be something or it could be nothing and scheduled me for a ultrasound.  Well I have never had any problems with cysts or any type of problems with becoming pregnant, with my menstrual cycles, etc., so I am not too educated on the subject of cysts and have been very worried about it.  I am going on the 17th (Oct)for a ultrasound and hopefully it will be a simple cyst.  I have had several of the symptoms of cysts (lower back pain, painful sex, extremely tender breasts, among others) for a while now, but never thought much of it and when telling the doctor at my yearly checkup or when going in approximately every six months for birth control it was never really made into a big deal that something could be wrong.  I did have severe pain on my right side after my tubal and at one point I thought I needed to go to the ER.  I felt like I was having spasms(something like contractions)on my right side in the ovary area, and it was extremely painful.   But things are not as painful now just mostly discomfort.  My back pain has gotten a lot worse though.

Basically, I just wanted to say that you are all in my prayers for those of you who are going to have these huge cysts removed and for those who have gone through it already, you will be my inspiration!

By the way is the purplish/gray color normal for an enlarged ovary/cyst?

Any words of wisdom would be welcomed and very much appreciated.

Hi Fem; I have had a large ovarian cyst that BC pills couldn't get rid of; tried the pill for 7 months and got worn out with feeling exhausted and getting puffier.  I went to my gyno recently after seeing my GP; my female GP told me that cysts over 5cms won't go away, that surgery is needed, so I went beck to the gyno (male) and insisted he take it seriously because it was affecting my quality of life.  I am having the cyst and perhaps the ovary removed.  a full hysterectomy is not necessary with cysts; beware of docs who want to get rid of everything, especially in the U.S., cuz they get more money for the full op.  I think you need a second opinion, and fast.  Don't trust this doc of yours, he sounds like an ass.  Be strong; take control over your health care.  I made a list of things to discuss the last time I saw my doc; I was well-informed on all the procedures and options, and I didn't give him a chance to be dismissive.  Sometimes it helps to take a male along (husband, brother, father, anyone!); unfortunate but true; they will take you more seriously.

Dee33, your husband needs to read this site.  The pain is real!  And women have much higher pain thresholds than men do.

Have they tried changing the prescription for BC. Maybe you need a different dosage.  My opinion is get to a different doctor for a second opinion.
