Ovarian neoplasms

Hi I am 45 and very recently had a ct scan for pelvic pain. The scan showed that I have bilateral ovarian neoplasms measuring 11 cm x12cm x10 cm each side with internal solid components with contrast enhancing areas. A recent ca125 test result of 13. I cannot get in to see a specialist until march. I also have been suffering from a swelling in my throat.. Pehaps like a goiter ... Could these two be related!? Should I be concerned ?

I was able to see a private Gyno  this afternoon.( Did cost me an arm and a leg!!)

He has asked me to have another ultrasound and then will refere me to an Gyn Onc if needed.

He wasnt very reassuring or overly concerned, Actually he really didnt say too much at all.

He did a transvaginal ultrasound...which i wasnt expecting...im pretty modest, even after having 5 children.

He said he could clearly see the large complex multioculated cysts.

He said that because they were so large, he was not overly concerned regrding cancer because if they were malignant I would not be feeling so well ???

What do you think??

Your recent findings are definitely a concern.  It is absolutely too long to wait until March.  Are you in the US?  If so, you need to find a gynecologic oncologist.  Any large, complex mass has a chance of being malignant.  But, even benign cysts that are as large as yours run a greater risk of rupture.  This could lead to further complications.  So, it is important that you get prompt treatment.  Unfortunately, the CA-125 test will not tell you if you have a benign or malignant cyst.  I have known many women who have had normal CA-125's but did in fact have ovarian cancer.  Also, I have known some with high CA-125's who did not have ovarian cancer.

In general, the swelling in your throat would not be a common place to be linked with ovarian cancer.  But, it is not impossible that the two are related.  When I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer three and half years ago, I also had a multinodular goiter on my thyroid.  Subsequent tests and biopsy confirmed it was benign.  But, my doctors did say there was a "slight" possiblity it could be linked before I had further testing.  My endocrinologist who did the biopsy said that it is rare for thyroid cancer to be linked with ovarian.  But, nevertheless, they did say it was "possible."

Here are a couple links that will explain the importance of your getting a gynecologic oncologist and one to help you locate one in your area:

You can't take that wait time as ok.   If you are not in the US, then I understand it is harder to get timely treatment sometimes.  But, you need to insist that your pain level and symptoms leave you unable to wait.   Please don't wait!!!  Keep us posted on how you are doing!
