Ovary Cyst Surgery/Complications

by kate6983, Jan 12, 2009 09:56AM
My sister had a dermoid tumor removed from her ovary (along with the attached ovary).  She had many complications after her surgery, (collapsed lung, paralyzed diaphram, infected incision).  My question is in concern with the infected incision.  She is overweight and the incision is right along her pant-line.  It was a laproscopic surgery.  She had pain afterwards and her gy/obn said her scar tissue was wrapping around a nerve, and gave her a shot of steriods.  Well it was after this that the incision became infected and reopened.  He said the steriods came to the surface and got infected (?).  She was given anitbodies and has taken all of them.  Still infected he said they were going to cut out the infection and resew her up.  What would have caused the infection?  What can she do to keep the infection away after this surgery?

These are all good questions for the Dr. ! I've never heard of steroids "coming to the surface".. She needs to voice these concerns to the Dr. and hopefully they can get a handle on this before it becomes worse.
