Overian cyst

I had an operation to remove cysts on both ovaries about 3 years ago, but recently I felt really ill during my period and starting feeling hot flushers.  I am 40 years old. But when I went for a routine checkup I had an ultrasound check which showed that the cyst on my left ovary has reoccured and is measuring about 6 cm.

My questions is would it be advisable to getting removed a second time and would I be at risk of loosing my ovaries.

and is it common for a cyst on the ovaries to continue to grow on the time and is there any way I can avoid the growth.  Should I exercise more eat healthier etc.   And what test can I have to check that its not ovarian cancer?

Many thanks

Huku

i have been on bc for going on 2 months straight the bc isn't helping. The two cysts that are still there were found in March but may have been there longer.  Are all the symptoms that I am having typical for benign ovarian cysts? I am concerned about the irregular bleeding and spotting after sex.

Hi and welcome to the fourm.  Usually when a cyst is 5cm or over, the doctors recommend that you remove the cyst.  Also, sometimes the gyn will put you on birth control to try to stop cysts form developing, but my doctor told me that once you are 35, they do not like to do that anymore.  What does your gyn suggest?  Hope you get some answers soon.

I am new here so i hope i'm in the right place.  IMy period was more than a month late.  My husband and i have been trying for a baby for almost 2yrs so i was hoping for pregancy.  I went to my ob and he ruled out preg.  they found 2cyst on my left ovary that together are tennis ball sized.  i had my yearly pap test done and I cramped and bleed afterwards.  this has never happened before.  Anyhow my pain worsened and i began to spot after sex and was in extreme discomfort only i hurt on my right side.  The doctor suggested that i had referred pain....no it was a baseball sized cyst on my right ovary.  both ovaries now had cysts and were touching each other.  this caused some bladder problems.  Sex was out of the question.  The large cyst on my right side ruptured  and the bladder and constant pain left. but the two on my left are still there and penetration during sex hurts and i spot afterwards.  i am only 25 and the doctor is discussing surgery to remove the cysts but also assurs me they are benig.  I have my doubts. If anyone has had a similar situation they would like to share it would help

many times a doc will put women on birth control pills to try and supress the ovaries from making cysts. There may be contraindications to you being on this medication. What does your doc suggest? Usually when a cyst is over 5cm or doesn't resolve there is a discussion regarding removing it. Some women on this forum including myself have had multiple cysts over the years.
The only definitive way to determine that a cyst is or is not cancerous is to biopsy the cyst. I hope you get some answers from your doc. you can refer to the health pages section and look at all the info on cysts.
