Post Surgeery

I had a large cyst on my right ovary that was removed along with my ovary and tube. I also had some scar tissue taken care of at the same time. I had this done with the three incisions one in my belly button and one on my left and one on my right side this was all done on November 14. My doctor told my husband the cyst had started to grow around some of my other organs, not sure which, I go back to see her 12/4. Anyhow she had said before the surgery I should be feeling better within a week or two, but I am still very sore, the pain is really bad around the belly button area and the right side where the cyst was. I had two c-sections and almost feel like this is worse than what those were. It seems like with such small incisions the pain should not be that bad. I also have had a bad backache. I had a hysterctomy vaginally nine years ago, and felt better than this. Anybody else with the same experience. Sorry to ramble on.

The pains we get are weird

Today I have had a pain free day up until the last hour then my hip started  but have been so tired and so unmotivated.
I also feel as though I am going to get a period as I have sore breasts and a heavy tummy, which could be as its been 4 weeks today since I had my D & C
When I get the pains in my hip it feels like I have pulled it.

Hope you feel better soon and make sure you rest up until the pain pass

I have been having some really bad pains lately. They just started Wednesday night in the middle of the night. I think I may have overdone it. I don't know for sure how to describe the pain it is kind of like a spasm type pain, but it hurts bad it is also crampy feeling. It hurts when I am just sitting, but it also hurts when I am walking. I don't know if something is stretching or what. I may see about going to the doctor a bit sooner than next Thursday if it keep up or gets worse.

Hi my doc said it was all part of the ehaling like I thought and to carry on taking the painkillers I have nothing stronger.  He said it wont start feeling better until about 8-10 weeks.
I too carried groceries yesterday as I had a good day but it set me back the rest of the day and my stomach swelled up  a bit so please dont do too much.
How are you feeling now?
My backache seems to ease off with my hip pain

You sound like me.  I'm a week and a day past my laparoscopic surgery, with incisions in the same place as yours. and am frustrated at my recovery rate too.  The first couple of days went really well - very minimal pain, no problems with eating.  I figured I'd be back lifting weights at the gym again within a week.  Hahaha.

Like you, I wasn't given any real restrictions beyond "lifting as tolerated."  And like you, I figure "as tolerated" means "doesn't cause immediate pain."  So I've been carrying around bags of groceries, boxes of Thanksgiving food, climbing stairs, driving, picking up my nephew ... all sorts of things other people with the same surgery have been told not to do.  The "problem" is that it doesn't hurt!  None of the things I've done have caused any pain, so I don't think I'm doing any real damage, but my abdominal muscles just feel tired - somewhat crampy and irritated.  I also get tired easily, and it seems like any time I leave the peace and quiet of my own home for more than a couple of hours I end up feeling sort of fuzzy and spacy and overstimulated.  I suppose it's the anesthesia, although it seems like that ought to be wearing off by now.  I went back to work two days this week, and was pretty tired by the end of both days, but nothing that made me think going to work had been a mistake.

Maybe the sheer lack of pain has actually caused a setback.  For example, I thought bending down would be painful to the point of impossible in the days right after the surgery.  But it hasn't been painful, and since I wasn't told not to do it, I just do it.

Patience, patience, I suppose.  We'll get there ... I just hate not feeling normal!

Hi marinemom2
No there is no fever or pus or anything just this pain internally.
I have my appointment tomorrow with my Gp I am sure its probably all part of the healing and the trauma but would rather put my mind at ease and maybe get some stronger painkillers
Thanks anyway

Tracey,
Are you running a fever.? I know that is one of the major signs of infection. Are your incisions red or any puss coming out of them that too would be signs of infection from your incision area. Not sure if you could have any type of infection inside and what types of signs you would have there. I didn't really have any bleeding. I don't know if that is because I had a hysterectomy years ago though. Keep us informed on how you are doing.

Hi, you've gotten some great advice here.  When I saw you'd been vacuuming I thought OH NO!  That is one of the worst things you can do.  It does use a lot of muscles.  My doctor told me, after I'd complained after just 2 days that I thought I'd feel better, that I had major surgery through smaller holes.  If your ovary was wrapped around other organs then you probably had a lot of things moved around in there.

Just take it easy and you'll see that week after week you'll feel better.

Hey Marine,
It is not just your minimal surgical scars,. keep in mind that an organ was removed.  Relally watch your lifting!  A good rule of thumb is if it weighs as much as a gallon of milk or more, let someone else do it.  Tough order, I know, but patience.  You know what you need and that is to take it easy.  MV

Thanks for the advice ladies. I have been watching for signs of infection, but there don't seem to be any. I even took my temp to be sure. I think I just need to take it easier.

Hi, people do heal at different rates and whatever type of surgery you have organs are moved about a bit , heavy lifting and too much stretching can cause extended healing time . Lastly if the area around you,re belly button becomes red or swollen , you may have an infection (I had one after one surgery).
I hope you feel better soon.

Vacuuming is pulling and stretching more than you probably should be doing. .. I don't know if I'd go back to work earlier than 3 weeks for sure if you can stay out that long. Judging from the posts , most of us were given a list of do's and don'ts after surgery, such as the ones I mentioned. Even though our incisions are small, they are still incisions and this is still surgery. I know how you feel .. I get antsy too, but it really has barely been 10 days !!! Don't rush yourself.. If you take it a little easier now, you'll be pleasantly surprised how quickly things will get back to normal.. Enjoy the time off from the "kids'.. I was back to my normal routine after a week, but I didn't lift, stretch, bend or drive. I went grocery shopping, but even then, didn't reach or bend.. took my husband along and he was put into use.Give yourself a chance..

Take care,
Sandy

I have been doing things around the house. I have not driven yet. The doctor didn't really put specific restrictions on me. She just said resume normal activities as tolerated. I have been vacuuming the house. I guess I feel that since I don't have a major incision I should be able to do more. I guess I have been bending and stretching when I have been doing things around the house, maybe I should take it a bit easier. It is hard for me to sit still. I also don't know about going back to work. The doctor filled out the paper for six weeks, but I could go back sooner. When I had my hysterectomy I went back after three weeks and I probably should have taken the full six. I just get stir crazy. I work at an elementary school in a special ed room as a teacher's assistant. I am on my feet most of the day and I do three different recess times. Any advice on that one ladies??

Everyone heals at a different rate. I felt fine within a week .. there was a little pain around the belly button if it was touched, but other than that I had no pain. Yet, I have heard of some of the ladies on here that have been laid up a month . It's only been a little over a week right?

Perhaps you are doing too much. Are you lifting anything heavy? Are you going up and down stairs? Are you bending or stretching? Are you driving? All of these things delay healing.

I'm sure you'll feel better as time goes on.. By the 4th, you'll be much improved I'll bet. Give yourself some time and your Dr. gave you an estimate..It hasn't been that long yet..
