Update: it is now Sunday, three days post op, and honestly my stomach is still very sore. I fortunately had no problem with gas or shoulder pain my bellybutton area is quite sore and still is. This surgery really affects the abdomen area and you really uses those muscles alot. I've been able to get up and move around the house, I even climbed stairs. Thankfully I had help from my husband, daughter and mom taking care of my 6 month old. My advice to anyone who is scheduled for this surgery have someone help you for the first couple of days, whether it's helping you move around or getting things for u your gonna need it. Invest in loose fitting pants and undies, cause the incisions are sore.

I am 56 yrs old. I had a 35cm X 20 cm non-cancerous ovarian Cyst taken out by laproscopy on Oct 5th. Also had ovaries and fallopian tubes out. I FEEL WONDERFUL. The doctor I had was wonderful, She had to make the incision a little larger to get the sac out and had 7 staples so those irritated me. This was done as an outpatient. I took 6 tylenol w/codiene, I was afraid it would hurt.  But it didn't so quit taking them.
I read about other women having this surgery and appreciate all the information on what to expect.

Thank you yes he actually took mine out intact I think cause it had alot of fat and hair gross...he said that the robotic surgery had alot to do with saving my ovary because the robot can turn the instruments more efficiently and in angles that the human hand can't....so far I'm good I requested walking to my car cause the quicker you start walking the more gas comes out...however driving with the bumps on the road hurt!!! But the pain has gotten a little better than this afternoon...the bellybutton incision is the one that really hurts the most it feels like someone punched me very hard....best of luck with your cyst I remember reading your post and yours is really big...yes fight to save your ovary, if there's no suspicion...you cam ask them to do inject dye in your Fallopian tubes to see if they are functioning properly, that's what he did cause of these cysts can destroy your tubes....if u have any questions feel free to ask :)

Good to hear your surgery went well, I wish you a speedy recovery. Must be a relief to have it out of the way. As far as I can tell from reading this forum, it makes a big difference that the surgeon pumped the CO2 out, but Im sure you will keep us updated if you start bloating.

I truely believe that they can take large cysts out through laparoscopy, but I think it depends on the type of cyst. Dermoid and fluid filled cysts are probably not too much trouble.
My mucous filled cyst caused an argument already, they dont want to spill that stuff in me, and prefer to take it out without draining it at all. My surgeon has agreed to drain it to get it out of a bikini incision (versus midline), but I believe I will have to sign something about me being aware it can cause complications. Im not done argueing to save the ovary though!

Now my stomach does feel very sore, I had four incisions and the bellybutton incision hurts the most....my stomach is pretty flat considering they pumped me up with co2, however I had a great surgeon who said he will take as much of the gas out...I woke up around 330, now an hour and a half later I feel less groggy as I am able to write this....I'm staying overnight cause he likes to keep his Patients overnight, and I don't mind resting before I go home to the kids my 10 yr old and 6 month old....the best part is my doctor saved my ovary, the incision had to be made a little bigger to get the cyst out but it's only half an inch long...now my advice to all of you getting laparoscopy or laparotomy, find a skilled surgeon who has the confidence of skill...depending upon the circumstance the ovary can be saved, many doctors just take the easy way out and remove the ovary with the cyst...and big cysts can be removed via laparoscopy...many ob gyns aren't trained and therefore perform the surgery via laporotomy...my regular ob/gyn referred me to this doctor because he didn't want me to undergo the unnecessary stress and invasiveness of a
laparotomy...fortunately we have a wonderful doctor in our area who is trained on robotics who did this for me...so I'll keep u posted on my recovery and hopefully this can help some of u who are scheduled for surgery , God bless debbie
