Precancerous cyst

by Breezy05, May 05, 2008 11:33PM
Hi ,
I am 21 years old. I have battled with benign ovarian cyst since I was 18. In 2006 i had my  ovaries completely   removed. My doctor then prescribed PremPro. Now I had heard the good and the bad of this estrogen replacement. However I have not came across a situation similar to mine. So then would like to present this question: If I continue to the use of Prempro can it cause benign  ovarian cyst to  become cancerous? How safe is PremPro? Does soy extract mimic the generic form of estrogen?

Thanks

You are very young to have to go thru this, but there are many young women in your situation. You can have Premature Ovarian Failure (as in my case) or an early menopause due to surgery. Most of the studies relating to hormones have to due with the normal menopausal aged women. There are newer studies that relate to younger women with POF using hormones. My doc said that I would need to stay on hormones until age 50-51, as that is the normal age a women usually looses hormones. Prempro would not be my first choice, but I was on it for a while. The most important question is, how are you feeling? Do you have any menopausal symptoms? If you are tolerating Prempro ok, then I really wouldn't worry. But if you are having symptoms or feel uncomfortable using it, then you should talk to your doctor about different hormones. There are numerous different kinds. I really don't know if Prempro would cause a cyst to become cancerous. Not sure about that. But I have read a few posts here where women had cysts even after ovary removal.
Hope that helps.
