Resistive index and color flow ultrasound

by turtle221, Aug 01, 2008 07:02PM
Hi.  As many of you may know, I have a problem with a "small cyst with suspicious vascular flow".  I had ultrasounds done at 2 different locations because I could not get an appt. at my regular location when I needed it.

The first one showed the "suspicious vascular flow" the second did not.  I started to worry today that the technoloy used was different because my regular ultrasound location never provided a resistive index number and the second ultrasound location did.  I asked the doc and he said "that's the way they look at blood flow and this is the way we look at it."

I was worried that the second location did not use as up to date equipment and techniques as my normal location.  I called the second location to check but could not get answers.  My doc just said to repeat the ultrasound at his office after my period.  I was just wondering if resistive index was generally given with use of doppler color flow. I am terrified that the cyst can be going though cancerous changes and the second test missed them.  Any thoughts or information would be helpful.

Thanks.

I just wanted to let anyone who may be reading this and is trying to gather information for their own issues that I finally got a hold of someone who would talk to me at the second imaging place.  The guy said that they routinely do doppler color flow on the ovaries.  However, some places don't. So, if any of you are in doubt be sure to ask.  Don't assume something was done because its common practice.

Also, just as an FYI, he said that doppler color flow is not routinely done on the uterus unless doc requested it or if something looks suspicious.  I know this is just the protocol of one imaging center, but the point is protocol varies and it is very important to ask alot of questions.

Good luck to all!
