SOLID MASS

I WAS IN THE ER YESTERDAY AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD A 10 BY 8 CM CYSTIC AND SOLID LEFT ADNEXAL MASS. T HE RELEASE PAPER SAYS " A LOBULATED CYSTIC AND SOLID MAS INVLOVES THE LEFT ADNEXAL REGION WITH A CONGLOMERATE MEASUREMENT OF 10CM AP BY 8CM TRANSVERSE WITH A LARGE SOLID COMPONENT ALONG ITS MEDIAL ASPECT." CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT ALL THIS MEANS CANT GET IN DR TELL MONDAY AND FREAKIN OUT ?????????

So sorry to hear about your mass...waiting is the worst!!!  Hang in there and hopefully, you will have some answers soon.  Your test results indicate that you have large, complex ovarian tumor.  Tumors like this can be benign or malignant.  There is no way to know without surgical removal an biopsy.  Any complex, mass over 5cm needs to be surgically removed.  It is very important you ask for a consult with a gynecologic oncologist.  Although you still have a good chance your mass is not cancerous, it does have a "chance" of being cancer and so you do need to have a gyn/onc available to step in if your frozen section during surgery reveals malignancy.  Here are some links with more information:

Have you had a MRI or CT scan?  Or, were these results from an ultrasound?  A MRI or CT shows the whole pelvis and abdomen and can help identify if there are other areas of concern.  Also, your doctor should order a CA-125 blood test.  Most masses (even complex, large ones) do turn out to be benign!  But, you do need prompt follow-up.  Your mass is large enough that it is at increased risk of rupturing.   Even benign masses can cause other complications.
