Should I get an ultrasound?

I am 31 years old and had a normal pap smear this past year. I have a dull pain in my lower right groin area. I went to the doctor and she said that I probably have a cyst and that I should get an ultrasound. I don't have great insurance so I am trying to avoid it. The pain has been going on for over a month now. Is it dangerous to wait any longer for it to go away or should I go and get the ultrasound?

Thank you for your answer. It was my regular doctor. I will see my gynecologist as soon as possible.

Normal pap smears don't indicate anything regarding ovaries and cysts.  They only test for abnormalities of the cervix and some pelvic infections.

Is your doctor a gynecologist?  Does your insurance cover gyn exams?  Usually if it is a doctor-ordered test like an ultrasound, insurance covers it.  At least find out what your personal cost is for these things before thinking you don't have "great" insurance.

If your doctor thinks you have a cyst, you do want to know more about it.  It could be minor or it could be serious, but without more information, it's just a guessing game.  This should be investigated by an experienced gynecologist.
