I am schedule to have my cyst removed next week on Thursday. I will have the bikini line cute due to the cyst being to large. Does anyone know what I should expect during the surgery and afterwards?
Don't rush yourself.. Usually they ask that you not lift anything or drive for at least 2 weeks..maybe longer. Remember that it takes a little longer to heal internally than it does on the outside...
Hello... I am at my 7th week after surgery and am doing a lot better, but it takes awhile... I am also dealing with surgical menopause because I had 2 10 cm dermoids that took over my ovaries... they started at my belly button and then moved to a bikini cut, so I was dealing with pain at both incision places...
YES, be sure to ask about the stool softener.. that was the worst part of the first week home... constipation! Drink lots of liquids and eat lots of fruit.. that helped me... After things are "regular" it is much easier to recover. If you can, stay home as long as you are able. I went back after only 3 weeks and had a real tough time the first week or so back to work. It really does take a long time to recover... really take things slow and don't rush it.. no lifting or cleaning or driving... I did stairs as soon as I got home, so I think that is okay, though some have told me I shouldn't have, but I had no choice. Keep a small pillow with you when you walk around to hold your tummy and take it with you when you ride in the car... I also used it at night in bed and used it under my belly when I slept on my side (though it takes a while before you can sleep on your side)... it really helps.
This week, the swelling has gone down, but not completely away.. I have heard it takes a couple of months to get back into your snug jeans again.
This week would have been my time of the month and I am experiencing "PMS" symptoms, sore back and cramping.... not sure if that is normal or if my body is just not sure what to do yet?!??!
Good luck to you and please let us know how it goes!
Don't worry, it does get better every day... rest...rest...rest!!!!
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns!!
Hi there. I had a vertical cut laparotomy last Monday (29th Sept) and to be honest I am absolutely fine now, only 10 days on.
I am not lifting or driving because I am not meant to but I do feel fine to do either of those. I am going to ask my doctor today when I see her to have my stitches out.
I had a few days of horrendous indigestion afterwards, that was the worst thing but that seems to have gone now.
I think it varies from person to person, and some people take a few months to recover but others feel back to normal much more quickly. I am 32, that may have made a difference.

Heidi is right.. you will be sore for a little bit and you need to rest.. I had the laparoscopy which is 3 tiny little incisions and I'm thinking you're having a laparotomy? How large is your cyst?

Drop us a line when you feel up to it,
Good luck,
