Thick-Walled Ovarian Cyst - Light Period?

I'm 30 years old and am experiencing my first ovarian cyst (that I know of). Two weeks ago, I started feeling nauseous, with pain and itching on my left side that appeared to be radiating from my ovary and down my leg into my foot.  Went to my ob/gyn, and an ultrasound revealed that my left ovary has a 2.7 cm "thick-walled, irregular cyst with debris." The volume of my right ovary is 6 cubic cm, whereas my left ovary is 18 cubic cm (that sounded like a big difference to me, but who knows). The doctor seemed pretty unconcerned and wants to see me again after two cycles, which I understand is the normal course of treatment.

I am not in excruciating pain, but the skin on my left leg hurts to the touch and the ache and pressure around my ovary radiating down my leg is rather uncomfortable.  The aching has gotten bad enough that I have felt like puking a few times and I have no appetite--I've lost 15 pounds in the past two weeks (no complaints about that, but still a little disturbing).  My blood pressure is also a little low (100/60, I'm usually around 120/80). Since this is my first cyst, I am curious, how long do these typically last before resolving themselves?  Does the fact that mine is described as "thick-walled, irregular with debris" mean I should be concerned about it? Also, I always have pretty heavy, clotty periods that last 5-6 days. I just got my period two days ago, and it only lasted one day and was lighter than usual.  Now I am just very lightly spotting. That has never happened before. Can an ovarian cyst cause your period to be extremely light?

Irregular periods means, as far as I know, periods that are out of the ordinary.  For example, my period comes every 28-29 days, lasts 5-6 days, and is heavy for the first 3 days and then tapers off.  This month, I only had moderate bleeding for 1 day, and then just very light spotting.  That for me is irregular.  For others, however, that could be how their period always is, and thus, regular. Or, for example, if your period comes every 2 weeks, or lasts a long time (like 2 weeks), or only comes every other month, is extremely painful, or something like that, that would also be irregular and should be mentioned to your doctor.

Thank you so much for your reply.  The doctor did not tell me if it was simple or complex. He asked me if I had painful, heavy periods, but I wasn't really sure how to answer that question. I mean, they are somewhat uncomfortable and heavy for the first 3 days, but I am pretty sure that most periods are like that. It's not like I have anything else to compare it to!

My mother had endometriosis at my age, and I am wondering if I might have it too. I am not overly concerned about cancer, since I know the chances are very slim, but both of my paternal grandparents had colon cancer and I am of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, so it does stick in the back of my mind. I am just shocked that a cyst so small (compared to the huge ones I am reading about) could make me feel so uncomfortable.  My friend had one the size of a small watermelon and had no idea! She just thought she was gaining weight!

I will call my ob/gyn tomorrow to ask about the short period. My regular doctor has also done a complete blood testing which I should get the results of next week (I did ask for the CA125 and he complied, even though I recognize this is a very unreliable test for premenopausal women).

Sorry to hear about your own troubles with cysts. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Did your obgyn said what type of cyst it is?
Like if its simple meaning fluid filled or complex meaning it has solid and fluid inside

Usually if its fluid cyst it can resolve on its own after 2-3 cycle
If complex it can resolve but only in some cases

My first cyst was a simple one fluid filled but it got big 7.2cm so we had to get it out with surgery
It turned out to be benign

After 6 months i have another cyst but this time its outside my ovary its complex and has thick wall its small 1.8cm but my other spts are alarming so my obgyn is watching it closely
Have another us in the 5th day of my next period hopely it will be gone by then

Anyways back to you
Thin walls are better than thick walls
But all ovarian cyst simple or complex has 90-95% of being bening
I think that you should go back to your obgyn and tell her about you period and ask for another us just to be safe

Hope this helps :)
