What stage of endometriosis causes endometrioma (chocolate cysts)?

At what stage of endometriosis do endometrioma appear? Can they appear in mild stages or only the most severe stages? What are the effects of endometrioma on fertility?

I am specifically refering to a 4cm cyst, if that makes any difference.

Hi,
Presence of endometrioma usually indicates advanced stage of endometriosis. This needs to be drained or excised soon. It will affect fertility by interfering with ovulation and causing pelvic adhesions. Consult your gynaecologist for a detailed explanation.
