What to do?

by rdnkln, Feb 26, 2009 04:03PM
I posted one other time on here and you were all helpful.  I will try to be brief, lol.  I stopped taking BCP back in October because I fear the long term effects of it as there is a lot of female history in my family of issues.  A week after I got off BCP I started having pain in abdomen and lower.  Then after a few weeks it spread to my inner thigh and then to the top part of my hip.  I've seen a gyn who diagnosed me with functional cysts that come and go every month.  Not very big cysts, but they are causing me terrible pain.  The hip pain is much worse than the other pain.  The gyn said there is no way (2 gyn's actually) that the hip pain has to do with the cysts.  My reg. doctor says it has to be, but ordered an xray and found nothing.  Gyn said make the reg. doc send me for an MRI.  The reg. doc won't do that until he sees me again, which isn't until next week, then he will send me to an orthopedic doc, so who knows how much longer before I get any answers.  The odd thing is this past month I noticed when I got my period (which is when I stop feeling cyst pain) that the hip pain went away too.  Oddly enough I only had a 4 day period this past month and as soon as my period stopped, a day or so later the hip pain returned and continues to increase in pain.

When I went ot see the gyn she said I could have endometriosis, but no way to know w/o doing the laproscopy.  I honestly don't have ANY time to take off work, which makes my decision harder.  My daughter goes in for outpatient surgery next week so I'm off 3 days for that.  I've been off of work so much for my daughters since Thanksgiving that if I take anymore time off I may not have a job!   IF I knew that it was possible that the cysts or possible endometriosis was causing the hip pain I'd go for the laproscopy.  Dh was going to get a vasectomy at some point, but if I do the lap then I can just get my tubes tied then as well.

Otherwise the gyn said I can either do Lupron (sp?) or Depo-provera.  Well neither one sounds great.  My mom has endometriosis and did the Lupron and she absolutely HATED that stuff and still suffers endo.  The depo doesn't sound great either.  I'm already having a HORRIBLE time losing weight, no matter what I do, and really don't want to take a pill that will make me gain.

I don't know why I'm here.  I just need to hear what others might do.  Deal with the pain? Do the lap on a Friday and pray I can go to work on Monday?  What?  Please, any advice will help me.  I am so lost.

I have a good friend who had monthly cysts that came and went along with the hip pain.  They did the laparoscope and found that she indeed had endo.  They were able to burn away some of it but she is now in a position where she needs to decide if she will have a total hysterectomy.  She can't take the meds because she has a history of blood clots.
