What will be the effect on my pregnancy with my surgery?

Hi everyone. I find this site very helpful indeed so I will put my own questions to ease my worries. I have a 7cm dermoid cyst, at the same time I am 20 weeks pregnant. My doctor said that I have to take out the cyst ASAP. I know she was right but I am afraid what it may do to my baby.
*Will the anesthesia affect the baby?
*It will be my first surgery so I don't know what kind of anesthesia they would give me. If they will give me a light dosage, will I feel pain then?
*Is it okay to have ovarian surgery when I am pregnant?

I have so many questions but it all slip my mind right now. I want to thank you all who would answer my questions. Your advise and ideas will be very much appreciated.

Hello again. I want to update you with my condition. I told you that I will have a surgery with my dermoid cyst while pregnant, but it was postponed.

When I went back to my doctor to schedule my operation, she asked me first if it was still painful (the first time I went to her, I experienced pain, that was when she advised me to have an operation), I said that the pain stopped but I would want my operation to push through.  My doctor said that it is best to leave it until the baby is out, or if it becomes painful again.

So now I am confused on what to do. Will the dermoid cyst be bigger and bigger inside my womb just like my baby?

How near is the dermoid cyst to my baby? It might stick to my babies skin. Sorry for beng so uninformative about it because I only saw the ultrasound pictures which are not clear and real pictures after all.

We have had a number of women who have had surgery during their pregnancies to remove cysts and have gone on to deliver successfully.  Talk to your doctor about your concerns.  There are different anaesthetics and I'm sure they'll use one that will least impact the baby.  You need to be entirely out for the surgery so don't worry about feeling pain - you won't.  If you do some searching on the related expert forum for Ovarian Cancer in the lower right, search on cyst surgery when pregnant as I know there were some questions around this posted and answered there.  Good luck and please let us know how you're doing.
