Worried & Waiting...Need Support

To: Waiting & Worrying
Hi Ladies,
I am so thankful for this community.  Thank you for sharing your stories.  I am 31 years old, and for about 6-months I have been experiencing severe PMS symptoms the week before my period.  I just figured that my hormones had changed after having my son and breast-feeding him.  However...this month, two days before my period I became extremely bloated and could not stop burping, as well as feeling run down and achy.  A few days into my period I did feel some relief.  Then my period ended earlier than usual, and was lighter.  That's when I really started to suffer:
First was the urgency to pee frequently...
Then I was nauseas and lost my appetite...
Now I have had those symptoms with diarrhea, weight loss (5lbs), extreme pressure and pain that moves around in my lower abdomen, rectum & thighs, insomnia (because I can't get comfortable) and digestive disturbances for the last week.  The other strange symptom is "spots" on my tongue (like geographic tongue)

I am SO SCARED!  I have an appointment with my OB/GYN for an ultrasound and check-up on Tuesday, but I am going to call and push for them to see me tomorrow.  I just want to know what is going on inside of me so I can get to action.  I can't live like this.  My poor 2 1/2 year old doesn't understand and keeps asking me to play with him.  :-(  I just have to be ok...  It is great to have each other's support through all of this.  All of you take care.

Thank you, Ladies!  I was definitely relieved.  I took time to thank God and breathe a little, and then it was time to get on with scheduling an appointment with the next specialist.  Sometimes it can be overwhelming...like you have a big checklist and you are just moving from one doctor to another to rule things out (and who has time for that?!)  However, I am always thankful when I reach the end and I am technically "fine."  Today was better (probably just knowing that my biggest fear was behind me), but my insides are so sore.  I took an anti-spasmodic to try to get things healed and calmed down...and that knocked me out, but I was happy to get some much needed rest.

Yes, I am VERY thankful for my amazing OB/GYN.  He has been incredible from the first day I met him.  I had some complications with my pregnancy, and he always did every test and took every extra precaution.  He also reassured me yesterday that I did the right thing by seeing him so promptly.  He had ordered up the ultrasound before we even met, so as to not waste any time.  His philosophy is why leave anything to chance?  Do all the tests and check everything out.  I am very lucky to have found him.

I have had episodes of IBS in the past, but whatever is going on now has been so incredibly severe and different than ever before.  I had no idea the multitude of symptoms that IBS supposedly causes (like my bladder issues, etc).  It is so hard to tell exactly where the pain is coming from, and IBS is such a "catch-all" diagnosis when they can't figure out what's wrong.  I hope it's just IBS, but I will have to stay on top of it to make sure I get some answers.  I am well aware that I am an extremely nervous/anxious person, so anytime I am sick my fear exacerbates everything.  Once I get everything with my body ruled out and straightened out, I am going to start talking with someone about managing my anxiety.  I know it is important to get a handle on that as well.  The most important things in life are your family and your/their health...as long as we have that, that's all that matters!  I wish that for everyone on here!  God bless you & thanks again for being my support system!  HUGS!!!

I'm glad to hear that your worst fear is relieved!! I'm also glad to hear that your OBGYN isnt just shrugging things off and is going to investigate with you to find out more of what is the cause of this. Good luck to finding out the cause and getting things back on track!

Hi Ladies,
Thank God I have great news to share...my ultrasound and pelvic exam were normal!  My OBGYN is still going to do extensive blood work, etc. to see if there are any other clues to what might be going on (hormones, etc.)  He is concerned that I have lost so much weight in less than a week.  He wants me to visit a gastroenterologist to make sure my digestive tract is ok.  It is so hard to tell exactly where the pain is coming from.  I know I don't have definite answers yet, but ruling out my biggest fear has taken a huge weight off my shoulders.  With all the discomfort and lack of sleep I am hoping this reassurance will help me relax a little.

I truly cannot thank the amazing women on this site enough!  You all were my saving grace.  I am not sure how I would have gotten through the waiting without you!  I am not going anywhere, though.  I am going to check in to see how everyone is doing.  I was telling my mother how seeing a group of "strangers" support and care for each other like you all do is such a beautiful thing.  It gives such hope in this world!  TAKE CARE & BE WELL!  Sending you my love and gratitude!

I have THE SAME story!  After I stopped breast-feeding I got PMS like never before.  Sore breasts, run-down, achy, the full week before my period.  I used to feel miserable the day before & the first couple of days of my period, but now it is a full week, and now it is different.

I would have thought it was an IBS flair-up for me this time, but it was different than ever before, and it was centered around my period.  Since I have been having hormonal issues for the last 4-6 months it makes sense that this is a female issue...there are too many other symptoms that I have never had before.  It is so hard.

It is always worth a second look for you.  Dr's and nurses miss stuff all the time.  I already have a second-opinion appointment scheduled for Friday.  I truly believe you can never be too careful when it comes to your health.  Good luck & take care!

I was first happy when she said everything felt normal. I mean she was in there awhile too! But I am worried she could have missed something.

After the birth of my son my pms got much worse. I never got sore boobs before and now I do. I also never felt ovulation pains but I got that too now. So things do change.

You said you had your digestive tract checked before? Why? I am just thinking if you had issues before you might have them again.

Thanks so much for your well wishes.  I am PRAYING for answers that include good news!

I have had cysts in the past, but they were only found by coincidence.  Once when I was rushed to the ER for abdominal pain, and then again when I had a bunch of tests done to check my digestive tract.  They obviously resolved on their own.

I just had a pelvic exam in February (3-4 months ago), so if I had a cyst then (that is causing me trouble now) it was missed.

Best of luck today. Hopefully you come out with some answers!

Those of you who have cysts did the doctor find them on a pelvic exam?

A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU!!!  At least I made it to the day of my appointment!  I so wish it were earlier in the day.  I didn't get much sleep at all (once again), but I couldn't have gotten through last night without all of you!  I keep telling my husband that you guys have been such a lifeline for me.  I PRAY, PRAY, PRAY for good news today!  Our health and loved ones are really all that matter in this world.  I would give up everything I have to insure my health and the health or my loved ones.  Anyway...I will try not to feel too anxious today, and I will hope for the best...but of course it will be a long, hard day.  I will definitely keep you all posted as soon as I know more.  Lots of love & gratitude!

That is better than nothing, i know i didnt get much sleep before appointments either. Good luck!

Oh I know, I always think the worst.. It cant be helped. Easier said than done but try not to stress yourself!! The pressure is certainly annoying, you can always try what i did... when the pressure or pain got too much, id lift my leg, even if i was standing.. it would seem to ease some of the discomfort. .... and if nothing else give the customers and my coworkers something to laugh about when im standing there like a flamingo!

Dealing with ovarian cysts, even if easily treatable, is stil soo very exhausting and stressful. Hopefully for you its resolved soon!

Thank you so very much!  All I want is to be able to get some rest, but here I am...wide awake.  I am just so uncomfortable.  It is not really pain...more pressure and distention.  I am just so scared of the worst case news tomorrow...and at the end of the day, too.  Then what?  I get sent home?!  Ahhhhhhhhhh!  I am going to do my best to get some rest.

I am so sorry for all that you have been through.  That is a lot!  I hope you continue to heal and do well.  I really can't thank you enough for the support and encouragement.  I will let everyone know how tomorrow goes.  Hugs & gratitude!

I know it is easier said than done, but try to relax! I had the pains, frequent urination, irregular bowel movements,i had weight gain, nausea, loss of appetite, hot flashes etc. Ive had the "geographic tonge" but more when im sick, umm the pains, mine where back, hips, thighs, etc more on right side (where the cyst was).

I've had cysts on both sides, had laparocopic surgery april 2010 and drained both ovaries. Post surgery the left side has responded to being on birth control 3 months at a time to help shrink and keep cyst away. In Feb 2011  I had another surgery, laparotomy this time, and I had to have my right ovary removed due to damage of the cyst. My cysts have all been simply fluid cysts.

Try ibuprofen and warm baths/heat pads like the others have suggested, it'll help with some of the discomfort.

good luck with your appt tomorrow! Looking forward to hearing your update, will keep you in my thoghts.

Thanks so very much, Ladies!  You have no idea how much that means to me.  I just have a hard time believing that non-cancerous cysts and cancerous cysts can have the same symptoms.  I have all of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.  :-(  And they came on so suddenly.  I am driving myself crazy, and I know it only makes matters worse no matter what is going on in there.  I wish I could just relax and rest, but it is not in my nature.  I am a very anxious person.  I hate this!  I honestly feel such love for you ladies.  You are keeping me as sane as possible.  Lots of love!
