Worried about ovarian cyst

I am a 54 year old woman who has had a hysterectomy when I was 30.  My ovaries were left.  I found out at the beginning of June that I had a complex septated ovarian cyst that measure 3.3 cm.   I was scheduled for and had a followup transvaginal ultrasound that showed the cyst had increased to 4.8 cm.  On the first US they described it as a cyst and the second US it was described as a mass.  I have pain in my right pelvic region and back pain.  I also have a lot of bloating and distension in my abdomen.  Can anyone give me any advice or information on this condition?  This is my first experience with this.  Of course my mind is going in a hundred different directions.   Can this be cancer?

They did a transvaginal ultrasound.  This determined that it was complex cyst.  My understanding is that part of it is fluid and the other part is tissue.  The tissue is what is the most serious.   I am not post menopausal because obviously I am still ovulating.  I do not go to the doctor until September 30.  I know I will be a basket case until then.  All the information I find on the internet says that if you are over 55 (which I am 54) that is more serious and sometimes it is too late by the time the symptoms occur.  My other ovary has dried up and is basically gone.  I don't know why this one didn't do the same thing.   I guess I just have to see what I can find out and understand that the same is not true for everyone.  Most people who I have found there stories on here have been benign.  So I am hoping for the same thing.   Best of luck tomorrow.  I hope to hear from you what your situation is.  Thanks for responding to my post.

I feel your worry and concern. I was diagnosed with a 6.22cm septated cyst on my right ovary. on Aug. 5th. Doc put me on hormone meds to see if it was a functional cyst. He said if is shrinks it is, if not I'll have to have surgery to have it removed. My next appt. is this Thursday, the 25th. I don't know if it is the meds or what, but I have been a "basket case" for two days. If someone says "boo!" I swear I'll cry. My ex-mother-in-law died from ovarian cancer because of late detection.

I think I'm just being paranoid, but I'm really scared!!! I am tired of hurting. I started spotting last Wed. and I have been having a lot of pain in my right ovary.

When is your follow-up? What have they done to determine what type of cyst it is? Have they mentioned surgery or meds?
