I had a 15cm dermoid cyst, and my entire right ovary and tube removed, and a 5 cm dermoid cyst, and part of my left ovary removed laparoscopically in December 2008.
My surgeon told me it was very unlikely that i would get another one, and that because i still had part of one ovary left i was still fertile.
It is now 3 months after my surgery and an ultrasound has shown another (what they believe to be) dermoid cyst growing on the remnant of ovary i have left. It has grown about 2cm in 3 months and is already bigger then the remnant of ovary i have left.
My question is - does it sound like the this dermoid is going to have to be removed, and if so, will they more then likely have to take the last bit of ovary i have left?
Also, if this is the case and i am left infertile as a result - would harvesting eggs be an option for me before the surgery?
I would greatly appreciate anyone's opinion on this, i am both confused and worried.
We aren't doctors here but I do think there is a chance you could lose the rest of your ovary and would think that egg harvesting would be a good option for you right now. Good luck with everything.
You are not alone. Same thing happened to me I had a dermoid and another fluid filled cyst removed a year ago. My ovaries were intact and I was told I had only a 3-5 % chance of the cysts returning and sure enough they have both returned after 6 months. I am taking seasonique to controlControl Control rx the growth and my left ovary currently hurts. I am 29. I can't tell you if the birth controlControl Control rx is working as I have not had another ultrasound to see the results but I will keep you posted.
