I had a 15cm dermoid cyst, and my entire right ovary and tube removed, and a 5 cm dermoid cyst, and part of my left ovary removed laparoscopically in December 2008.
My surgeon told me it was very unlikely that i would get another one, and that because i still had part of one ovary left i was still fertile.
It is now 3 months after my surgery and an ultrasound has shown another (what they believe to be) dermoid cyst growing on the remnant of ovary i have left. It has grown about 2cm in 3 months and is already bigger then the remnant of ovary i have left.
I have an appt to see a Gyn in a few days who i assume will send me for more tests etc. My GP has concerns about my fertility. I am only 26. She believes that given how fast my last dermoids grew, and how fast this new one is growing, then i may not have much time left before the dermoid kills the little bit of ovarian tissue i have left (the last dermoids i had killed my ovarian tissue, hence why i had one and a bit ovaries removed).
My question is - does it sound like the this dermoid is going to have to be removed, and if so, will they more then likely have to take the last bit of ovary i have left?
Also, if this is the case and i am left infertile as a result - would harvesting eggs be an option for me before the surgery?
I would greatly appreciate anyone's opinion on this, i am both confused and worried.
Thank you.
