complex ovarian cyst

Hello...I'm new..just found this forum after doing research about my newly discover complex cyst. I had an MRI done on my right hip and this was found by accident. I had major hip surgery a year ago and am still in pain. Before my surgery I had an MRI on my hip and there was no cyst a year ago. Now this complex cyst has appearred 1 year later and is 3.5 by 5 centimeters large. I am worried that this thing has come from nowhere it seems and in 1 year is that big. I know that's not as big as some people have had..but alarmed me that it grew so fast in only a year. There are also fibroids in my uterus..also not there before. I have had fibroids in my breasts for hears though. My hip surgeon found these and I am scheduling an spot with my gynpcologist asap...just really alarmed..worried..don't know what to expect..and scared because have many family members who have passed from cancer..and who are fighting it now.  Feedback??...thanks..mandi

You are right. Complex ones can be a bit more worry some. And 18mths of pain is a very long time. There are very good treatment options without surgery but with as much pain as you are in surgery for removal of the cyst ( if it hasn't ruptured by then) and removal of the fibroids would be very beneficial for you for pain relief and for your over all health. And yes bladder infections are common when u have cysts because sometimes they put so much pressure on your organs (including your bladder) so it makes it hard to completely empty it...which in turn can cause a bladder infection. I just had one my self. So drink lots of water and try to use the restroom as much as possible. Glad you are seeing the gyno. Good luck and best wishes

Thanks for your reply...I have never had any kind of cyst before...the complex thing is what is worrying me for sure...and the fact that I have fibroids in my uterus as well. Don't know about the left ovary yet as the mei was of my right hip and didn't show any pictures pf the left side..have been in pain for 18 months due to hip problems and surgery...or so I thought that was the only cause of the pain...but after doing research..I believe some of the pain I have been experiencing is probably this complex cyst...I have recurring bladder infections...every 2 or 3 months...and pain in my groin and down my thigh..inner and back..I see the cynosure in a week...will be a very long weekof waiting...cant help but worry...I know cysts are common..but not complex ones...and not at age 40 and being the 1st one ive ever had in my life...trying to think positive!

Hello, I saw your post. 3.5 cm isn't very big for one yr. The most research you will do u will see that cysts r very common. Complex ones r a bit more alarming bc of what they r composed of (half solid half liquid). Rest assured that it probably hasn't been there a whole yr. I get new ones every wk once one ruptures. I didn't have one two wks ago and now I do and its 8cm. They can grow fast. As long as it isn't causing pain you should be okay. But you are doing the right thing by going to your gyno. Most of the time at the size yours is they will do the watch and wait method but considering your age they may go ago and do surgery to remove it and biopsy it just to be safe. Since its on the smaller side compared to some it usually is done with one small incision. Very quick and easy recovery. Best of luck to you
