cyst in ovary

by e1010, May 05, 2009 05:01PM
Hi,

I am 28 years old. I was prescribed birth control pills two months ago to help with my PMS. This is the first time I've been on bith control pills. I never had problems with ovarian cysts. My cycle has been regular too. I experienced the same symptoms (being on the pill) that I experienced during ovulation when I wasn't on the pill. It happened right on the same time when I usually ovulate (breast tenderness and bloating that lasted about 3 days). "I thought I was ovulating" but I know that the pill prevents you from ovulating. I developed a strong pelvic pain when my period ended and started my third pack of pills. I went to the Dr and had an ultrasound. A cyst was found in my left ovary. How is it possible that my ovary had a cyst if i'm not ovualting? Is it possible that I had a failed ovulation that developed a cyst even if bieng on the pill? Is if possible that the pill is not working for me and is not preventing ovulation, but is causing a failed ovulation? I would like to know to consider if I need to stop taking the pill after I let my dr know. Thanks.

my nurse said that you still ovulate on the pill but you wont drop and egg. so you can still get all the symptoms of ovulation even on the birth control pill.

I went on the pill to get rid of cysts because I have been trying to get pregnant after having a miscarriage, the cysts were interfering with ovulation. they were all on my right side. i went on the pill for thee months. the pain stopped for the most part until the third month when the pain came back again. after an ultrasound the dr said there were no cysts on my ovaries but there was fluid behind my uterus and he said it could have been a cyst. I asked him how that could be because I thought the pill was supposed to stop the cysts. he said they can sometimes still form even while on birth control.

I wouldn't worry that the birth control isnt working for you. unless you take antibiotics while on the pill it is very uncommon to get pregnant.

hope this helps

A cyst can develop even though you don't ovulate. I, am postmenopausal along with others on this site, and havent' ovulated in years yet I still had a cyst.. With premenopausal women they are still common and unfortunately the pill doesn't prevent them 100%. It will probably resolve on it's own. I'm sure they will keep an eye on it ..

Don't worry....
