growing 5cm ovarian cyst

Im 17 years old, with no children. 10 days ago i had a horrible pain in my stomach and anus that caused me to vomit and curl up into a ball on the floor. My mom took me to the ER and they did an ultrasound and they found a complex ovarian cyst that was 4.7cm by 4.5cm. I recently had the merina IUD put in and they think this is what caused it so they took out the IUD and and put me on low hormone birth control pills to shrink it. They told me about how it could twist my ovary  and i would lose it so i have been taking it really really really easy because im not sure what losing an ovary will do to my chances of having children later. last night i was having pains in my lower side of my back so i went back today and they found out that it is now at 5cm by 4.8cm. i have to go back in two days to get the final results. i want to know the chances of me having to have surgery and what are the chances of me losing my ovary. i want children more than anything in the world and i need to know if losing an ovary will affect my ability to get pregnant later in life.

I was having the same problems a couple years back.  I was 16 years old when they found a cyst on my left ovary.  After having 3 children,  I was put on the mini pill.  While on that pill, I started getting awful pain in my ovary, hip and back area and I would curl up into a ball.  Crying and unable to walk because I was in so much pain.  I went to my OB, got an U/s and they never measured it.  Just said it was nothing to worry about.

Now its been 2 years and 1 baby later.  My doctor said I was too young to have a Tubal.  So he told me to get the Mirena IUD.  It's been 6 months since having it and this pain is horrible!   It's in my lower back, left hip, left side of my vagina and ovary.  My back pain is SO bad, that I can't walk.  And my baby girl it just 8 months old.

My doctor, in the past, never listens to me.  When they were doing the U/S, the tech told me that he assigned it to be in my uterus.  I told her, NO!  It's my ovary.  She said she could only do what the doctor told her to look at, she never put the probe thing on my ovary.  So I never got a full U/S that I was hoping for.

Do you feel nauseous, bloated, anything like pregnancy symptoms while this pain was happening?   Like on and off for weeks straight then get days where you feel awesome?

I'm scared to death and just figured it out in my head that its MY CYST causing this.

One problem, I have no way to the doctor because my husband and I are on our own and no family around.  He works all the time and I'm a SAHM.

I can't believe it took me so long to figure this out.  Thank you for this post and hope all is well

i was 16 when i first found out i had a cyst on my right ovary it was only 3cm so they did nothing but in a years time it grew to 5cm and my doctor took my cyst out. since then ive had 3 surgerys the last one being 2 months ago they had to remove my ovary. im 20 now and have never had kids, and i, like u want them really bad. my doctor told me that i will still beable to have kids and if i havent concevied in a year he would help me with pills and whatever else. im newly married and here i and only 2 months after and possiably pregnant. so if they do have to take ur ovary dont worry im sure u will have kids u still have another ovary. oh and mind u when they took my ovary it was 8 or so cm. and with u being so young they will do everything they can to save ur ovary. they did with me..but they can only do so much i guess.

Good luck honey!  I have a daughter with a cyst right now that is 4.5 to 5.0.  Just a week an half ago she had one that burst and it was very painful.  They called it a hemmoraging cycst and you will bleed and have pain for like 3 to 4 days

They are not real concerned at this point with my daughters cyst, but are going to continue to monitor it.  I really don't think you will lose an ovary over it.  Cysts are common that big.  I was told by my daughter's gyno that losing one ovary you can still get pregnant.  She has endometriosis really bad, and we were asking if she lost one ovary if she could still get pregnant, and they said yes.  It is really funny because the specialist we saw today was giving her options to supress her endomotriosis and one suggestion was an IUD (which I am against because I don't think that would help her - she has it pretty bad).  But when they said your IUD caused cyst's that is weird.

My daughter is only 22 and has been through 2 surgery's and 6 months of lupron shots for endometriosis.  Good luck and let us know.
