healing timefor bi-lateral ovarian cystectomy via c-section type cut
Hi - during a routine exam my doc found a tangerine-sized dermoid cyst on my right ovary and a grape-sized one on the other. ca 125 test came back negative. I am not concerned it is cancerous. The surgeon recommends a c-section type cut for removal of the cysts because I haven't had kids yet (I'm 36 - unsure if I even want kids, but I do want the OPTION!). She is concerned laproscopic or robot could damage the ovaries. Is this possible? I have never had surgery before and am very concerned with recovery time. I tend to heal quickly, am active, do yoga regularly, eat well, make fresh fruit and veggies juices, etc. I am looking for realistic healing times... when will I be able to get around fairly normally? 3-4 weeks sounds unbearable! Thanks in advance.
A complex ovarian cyst is less common than simple ovarian cyst. At such a young age it can eb dermoid cyst which is a type of complex ovarian cyst and is the most common type and develops during the childbearing age. Complex ovarian cysts are generally benign. The risk of malignancy is generally higher among postmenopausal women.
Most ovarian cysts disappear in 8 to 12 weeks. If they persist then before going in for surgery we can try the birth control pills also.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Thanks for the comment...I am going through with surgery - but am concerned with how long it takes to recover from open surgery... I know these cysts are complex and will likely NOT go away on their own. I have also read they don't respond well to natural therapies either, which I prefer over something so invasive - hence my nervousness about how long it will take me to recover! Thanks!
