help hormone issues 5 months past surgery

Im 42 and live in the UK. I had Laparotomy surgery to remove a large 20cm cyst, my left ovary and fallopian tube and my appendix 5 months ago on 21st August 2013. The cyst seemed to appear very suddenly and as it was so big required urgent removal and it was only 6 weeks from diagnosis to removal. I have noticed since the surgery that my eyes are dry and I am now not able to tolerate my contact lenses and having to wear glasses full time which I hate. I have been backwards and forwards to the opticians and have not managed to resolve this issue, my optician says that though dry they are not drastic. My eyes are also becoming more and more red with each day that passes and no amount of artificial tears helps or makes them any less red. I am also suffering from palpitations and though not having hot flashes I find I am no longer able to tolerate hot rooms or heat of any kind. I find myself having mood swings and being tearfull at times. My periods are regular but only last 2 days max. Due to these symptoms I visited my doctors who gave me a blood test and said I was not in menopause as my levels were 6.5 (levels of what he did not explain)and to be in menopause would be between 23 and several hundred. A test was also done for thyroid function and I was told this was normal too. I take a progesterone only contaceptive pill and have done for many years but am now wondering if I should be taking this following the surgery as it may be affecting my hormone levels. The doctor has tried to presribe me anti depressants but I do not want these as I know I am not depressed just frustrated and confused as to what is causing these symptoms and how to get back to normal. I have tried all the remedies for dry eyes such as taking Omega 3 and Flaxseed supplements. I have also read that these supplements can help with hormones and general health but I have been having these for over 4 months now but not having any improvement. Ijust don't know what to do and if this is normal or not. How long am I going to feel this way/

Thank you for your help. I have had to change my username/nickname due to a problem with my email. I will request a copy of the blood test as you have suggested and also ask for the endocrinology screening, hopefully they will be open to doing this for me.
Thank you for your reply it has helped a lot

The first thing to do is contact your Drs. office and pick up copies of all recent lab work that's been done. If you can post any finding here and we can move forward from there. It is incredibly unfortunate that the majority of Drs. jump so quickly on a Depression diagnosis when they can't find an obvious cause in women's health. The most important thing to remember is that you know yourself better than anyone else and follow that there are people who believe you. I think a good natal endocrinolgy screening might be best including a blood calcium level. Please let us know what you find and task care.
