I'm so glad that you are feeling back to yourself again.  I've heard that dermoid cysts are gross.  I've had 2 and have not seen the pictures.  I don't think I want too.  LOL  I am anxiously awaiting my surgery on June 8th.  It can't come fast enough as far as I'm concerned!!

Wow...glad to hear you are home!  Don't let the post op bloat worry you. It WILL reduce in time. If you wanted to lose some pounds, it could happen now. Do not eat anything too heavy or difficult to digest. Most importantly no heavy lifting for a few weeks or vaccuuming. You have a lot of healing to do.

Nana, I am so glad that you are home and your surgery is behind you. WOW your cyst was very big.  I'm so glad they were able to save the ovary.  As for the poo issues, have you tried drinking prune juice (gross!!  LOL)?  If not you may want to give that a try.  You may also want to eat a high fiber diet until things get back to normal.  Also, walking around your house is a good way to get rid of the gas. Now it is time to sit back and let others wait on you and treat you like the queen you are. REST, REST, REST is the key to your recovery.  Going up and down stairs may not be a very good idea until you are less sore.  I am glad that you are going to stick around to give your great advice to other women.  You are a wonderful woman and a great asset to this forum.  Please take it easy and update us when you feel like it.  Just so you know, I love you too. :-) and all of the women on this site.

It all depends on what type of cyst you have.  If it is a simple cyst and they can drain it, they should be able to take it out laproscopically.  If it is complex or solid (like a dermoid cyst) it will probably have to be removed by laparotomy.  Also, if your ovary or cyst is stuck to other organs, then they will probably open you up to make sure that they get all of the cyst and cells out.
The waiting can be so hard.  I am on the countdown to my doctor appointment next week when I will hopefully get my surgery date.  Will you have a pre-op appointment with your doctor before surgery?  If so, you can ask him then what the requirements will be for not having the laproscopic surgery.  He should be able to tell  you in what circumstances he will need to open you up.  Hope this was helpful!!  Good luck, and keep us posted!!

Hi.hope everyone is well.im nervously waiting for the d day. i have less than 3 weeks to go.however,i 'm wondering if anyone can help me on this.my cyst is 11cm and im wondering, will they do a laproscopy or a laparotomy. they say they will do the laparotomy only if they cant get in laproscopically but surely an experienced doc would know which would be used for a cyst my size.help!!!!

Cysts can definitely keep growing.  Pain after sex is very normal when you have a cyst.  Not to be gross, but my doctor told me that if I was going to have sex before surgery (my last one that is) just to make sure that penetration is not deep.  It did help make sex a bit more pleasurable.  Hope this helps!!

thank you all so much for taking time to answer my questions.i feel like you're my online family.the doc said my ovaries were fine when i last spoke to him and he wasn't going to remove them,so i guess that's my baby issues sorted.
I phoned the hospital today and they said ihave been put down for 3 days stay after my surgery.so i guess i might not be having laproscopy like the doc said if i'll be in for 3 days.I've actually booked an app with my gpto gothrough whatis reallygoing on.You are all brave wonderful women who are encouraging and definitely maki ng me less worried about this op.willlet you know how the op goes definitely, and even the pre assessment.i love u all.xxxxx

Both ladies gave excellent advice.  Is the cyst in your uterus or on an ovary?  That too would depend on the type of surgery you will have.  I also want to add that if you lose one ovary, it may take a few cycles for your other ovary to do the work of both ovaries.  Many women get pregnant with only one ovary.  You will feel so much better when you get this cyst out.  Good luck and please keep us posted on how you are doing!!

MarieMichelem, you are such a wonderful person on this forum and give great advise!! Nana_, I had my right ovary removed and the doctor said that my other one just fine. Just make sure that you ask him/her to take a look at the other to make sure everything looks good to go and they don't need to work on it. I asked my gyno" while your in there....make sure my left ovary is productive and attached to me tube. Hope this helps!!

It depends on the surgery.  If they do this through small incisions (laparoscopy, also called keyhole surgery) they could be sending you home the same day or the next day. If it is the surgery I had, open surgery, also called laparotomy, it could be 2,3 or 4 days.  As for conceiving, it depends on whether the ovary was damaged to the point it also must be removed.  If you do lose one, the remaining ovary will take over for both.  Conceiving would only be a problem if both ovaries are damaged or lost.

Read my surgery story in m profile for all the details on what to expect if you have the same surgery I did.
