lap for cysts?

My doctor found a cyst on my right ovary.  He wanted me to get another sonagram in six weeks.  So, I did and the cyst was bigger and he said it looks like a chocolate cyst(endometerosis)  He want to do a lap.  I don't know if I need this surgery because I am not having that many symptoms.  I don't know what to do.

I'm sure your doctor knows how to handle your cyst. Cysts can be very hard to deal with when you do have symptoms, but even when the symptoms are not present, the cyst needs to be removed if it is a chocolate cyst and it keeps growing.  Should it rupture and leak, it may cause infection to other organs and you WILL be in a lot of pain.  How big is the cyst now? If it is that much bigger than it used to be, they will probably do an open surgery (laparatomy) to avoid rupturing and spilling its contents.  If you don't feel comfortalbe with your doctor for another reason, get a second opinion, but your next doctor will probably want to remove your cyst as well. Good luck and try not to worry about the surgery. Everyone is different, but my recovery was very speedy and not that much pain after a couple of days.

Thank-you for your reply.  It helps to talk to others with similar problems.  I know my husband is probably tired of hearing me talk about this.  I am not too sure how much bigger my cyst is now.  It started out at 4cm.  All I know is it is bigger and he want to get a closer look at it.  I am thankful that he is not just brushing the whole thing off.  I am hoping the lap surgery won't keep me from work too long.

Hi,
I think your Dr. is really giving you good advice and Baby pooh is right on with the complications if you don't have it done.

The "Lap" isn't really all that bad. I was told not to drive or lift anything for 2 weeks, but I felt pretty good after a few days .. I would have driven myself to post op after 1 week had I been permitted, but went to grocery store with no other problem than the cart hitting me where the incision was (3 tiny incisions is all they do ) .  And, the sooner you have it done, the sooner it will be over...
