by BEG1975, May 16, 2009 05:25AM
hi all, i am new to this site, i am 34 and am due to have surgery on the 27th to have cysts removed fron both left and right ovaries....i have suffered pain and discomfort for some time now........i am worried as have never had any surgery before.....they have told me that they may have to do open surgery depending on what they find!! My main concern is that i get married on the 3rd july and we go on our honeymoon on the 8th!! Does anyone please have any advise on whether i will be ok?? My consultant said i should be but cant guarantee it!! Will i be ok to fly?? Do i leave the surgery till after the honeymoon but risk the cysts getting bigger and the pain getting worse!! Any advise at all would be great, Many thanks, Claire.

I'm having surgery on the 28th to have a cyst removed that they have been monitoring since Feb.  It isn't going away and each month my pain is worse!  When I get my period the pain is really bad.  I too have questions about the surgery.  My doctor says in and out "if everything goes well"  Maybe a week of downtime!  I'm thinking I should be ready to go back to work in 5 days.  I do office work.  Nothing physical at all!  I have a list of questions to discuss with my doctor at the pre-op visit.  You should ask your doctor any question you can think of.  Like What if once they are in there and they see the ovary needs to be removed.  Will it still be in and out surgery? I want to know when is the decission made that they need to take the ovary, and how do I know I wont continue to get cysts. I know a lady that had to have an orange size cyst removed and was cut with a 5 inch incission and was only out of wrok 2 weeks.  So  you may want to move forwadr with your scheduled surgery to allow enough time to heal up for honeymoon.  Only you and your doctor can really decide if you should wait.  For me, I would take in consideration how much pain am I in now, could this cyst burts if I put it off, and should I just get the surgery over with so I can move forward with my plans.  I myself have been in pain every day, some worse than others for 3 months now. My cyst was 5mm at the last ultra sound on May 3rd.  I'm 48 years old and I want to get back to feeling good again.  Hope your surgery goes well and you have a wonderful honeymoon.

Claire:

We are in similar situations.  Your surgery is today, mine is tomorrow.  I am 35 and getting married on the 4th of July.

I have a 5cm complex cyst on my left ovary and a 2cm simple cyst on my right ovary.  I am overall in great health and am active.  Maybe 10 pounds overweight.  My Dr. said I should be fine to travel 5 weeks post surgery.  We are thinking about Fiji.  He also said I could scuba dive then as well.

He is a gyn/onc and is planning to make just one incision below my belly button (laproscopic).

Of course, there can always be complications.  We are waiting to book our honeymoon until next week, since we hadn't booked it yet.

I am sure things will go well with you and you will heal quickly!  I did not want to put off my surgery and then regret it later.  I will be glad to know exactly what is going on inside me.

I am on a clear liquid diet today.  Currently drinking chicken broth - the most exciting thing I get to have today!!

Let us know how your surgery goes.
