leaking ovarian cyst,cancer types,questions!

by Ms_Makita, Dec 30, 2006 12:00AM
Went to er again for severe pain on christmas eve, transvaginal ultrasound showed right ovarian cyst but smaller (was 5cm now 4cm)dr said it was prob leaking and causing other abdomial (abdominal) symptoms,(excess "trapped" gas, severe nausea, constant stomach/intentine rumbling, heartburn, bloating, feeling full,shooting/stabbing pain radiates all over, especially rectal and leg pain,At first it was just lower right side now its all over my belly,no appetite due to full gassy feeling, and bowel problems. They could tell it was fluid cyst, maybe blood(been spotting chocolate dark blood)anyone else experience these symptoms with leaking? would cancerous cyst leak?
I've had it for 3 1/2 months,er dr also mentioned further testing for ovarian cancer because symptoms are worrism(gyno appt is jan 11th) which of course scared wits out of me as its been in back of my mind (im going on 29 in feb)I always thought ovarian cancer was tumor/mass?,could fluid filled cyst also be cancerous? also  been experiencing major hair loss and scalp thinning (80lb weight loss) had appendix out in oct found cyst week later,er dr pretty much dont know if it's ovarian or abcess (abscess) from appendix since i had major infection (didnt rupture)but it was chronic (6 months of abdominal pain)but with irregular periods and bleeding im opting its ovarian and not an abcess (abscess).Could leakage of cyst cause so many distressing symptoms? im tearing my hair out..not alot of it left..lol,any advice appreciated, your all so wonderful on here I dont know what id do without this site! ty all in advance~Step

If I were you and knowing what I know now I would find myself a good Gyn/Onco and get it checked out right away.  I wouldn't put it off until February.  I would go ASAP.  Better to be safe then sorry.  Good Luck!  Diane

I have the same symptoms. Had lap 8/06 for endometreosis now I have a 3.6cm cyst left ovary. Had severe nausea lost 15lbs since 6/06 pain down leg up rectum etc. I went to a gastro guy to rule things out had an ultrasound of gallbladder etc waiting for results. Had colonoscopy came out fine. I just had an endosocopy a few days ago. I had alot of inflammation in my esophogus and he saw alot of bile in my stomach. He said the combo of the pain pills and the stress of my pains was causing my gallbladder to go into over drive. The bile had no place to go so it went into my stomach. I am on nexium and carafate 4 times a day. The nausea has stopped. My gyno also put me on birthcontrol so far I have not had those terrible pains I do have some pain but I can tolorate it but I did not get my period yet either so stay tuned. I am 33yo. hope that helps you.

Ty Diane and Shellant for your replies, helps alot! I also had laparscopy in Aug to check for endo but none was found, had colonscopy in April but results were normal, endoscopy showed acid reflux. Now I'm wondering on top of ovarian cyst about gallbladder too..especially with rapid weight loss and been living on pain pills for least a yr,in April I had gallbladder infection so its possible few things still hitting me all at once..can live without appendix and gallbladder..just tired of all these surgeries and pain, ugh!and still not really knowing why im still in such distress and so tired all the time.It mimics ovarian cancer, ibs, (history of ibs)endometriosis, but now dr is starting to treat me as a headcase with anxiety or its in my head..very frustrating to get dr's to take you seriously with ongoing problems for so long and all test come back good, and I really doubt ibs is the cause for all of this especially when you have inner voice telling you and your body something isnt right and I never experienced pain like this for so long.Best wishes to you both, and I hope 2007 brings better health and happiness!

I Am going through the same thing right now. Trying for the life of me to figure out what is going on I am 24. Had a complex ovarian cyst on the left 4cm. After a month or so I went back to the Emergency because of extreme abdominal pain like my insides were twisting up into knots. Lieing down with my kids in the evening I could breath, there was so much pressure in my abdomen. at the hospital I told them about the cyst, they did blood test to see if I was pregnant ( not) I have an IUD. People seemed to suggest that it ws gas. For three days after words very tender abdom couldn't be touch as if I was bruised . could eat. Went for an U/S the following monday and the cyst was gone on the left side. and now I had one that was 2.6cm on the right. I am still waiting doctors apt. I have this far that they are going to tell me that it is IBS. the inner voice in me has been telling me for the past two years that somehing is not right. Only now it is getting worse. I was so pissed when the cyst had gone on the left because I figured that I would get any answers now. Now I thik that maybe ... is it possible that it was leaking into my abdomen and that's why all the twisting and pain?

It sounds as if your cyst burst which could cause that pain.  I'm thinking they did a pg test on you b/c they may have been worried about an ectopic pregnancy.  That would cause hurt like you described.

The cyst on the other ovary is small and may be a functional follicular cyst.  Women get cysts each month as they ovulate.  Watching and waiting is a common outcome and your doctor may say this to you.  Unfortunately, GI problems do mimic those of cysts so the topic of IBS may come up.

There is an ovarian cyst forum that would be a better place to post.  This is the ovarian cancer forum.  Also, you may have been looking in the archives and found this original post from 2006.  It gets confusing b/c people end up answering very old posts.  You are welcome to start your own over on the cyst forum.  You could just copy and paste your original post there.

Take care and keep us posted.

Have a look at polycystic ovaries these can cause a lot of your symptoms.

Sunday I was in the ER.  They found a ruptured ovarian cyst.  The Dr. didn't act like it was a big deal.  What causes an ovarian cyst to rupture?  How serious is it?  Can I continue my daily activities ( I am a horse trainer).  I really know nothing about it or what to expect.

In essence the cyst has resolved itself.  There are instances when a cyst has solid components (like in a Dermoid) that you need to be aware of possible infection but in most cases your body just absorbs the fluid or it flows out.  Just watch yourself for fever.
