oofrectomy...need advice

Hi, I am having an oofrectomy next week to remove a large cystic mass in my pelvis.  The cyst and my left ovary are indistinguishable and so they say the ovary has to come out.  My gynecologist offered to do a tubal ligation on the other ovary at the same time.  Will this make the recovery time longer?  What are the side effects of a tubal ligation, if any?  Any advice on recovery from the surgery in general?  Thanks a bunch.

Thank you for your reply.  Actually, my doctor did not give me any information about recovery, other than to say it should take about two weeks.  That is why I posted on here.  To get first hand information from people who have been through it.  Thanks again for your help.

Hi, good luck with your upcoming surgery.  Hope it all goes smoothly.

Wow, a bonus tubal ligation!  = )  I really don't think it'll make one difference in your recovery.  Tubals are done as outpatient and your other surgery may very well be, too?  You will probably bounce back very well after it all.  Side effects of a tubal?  = )   Sorry, but I just have to attempt to be funny here...NO CHILDREN!  LOL

As far as recovery goes, your doctor will give you a list of things at your pre-op.  I found it very important is to listen to my body.  You will probably be having a laparoscopy which will be so much better for recovery time but don't make the mistake of thinking that smaller holes = smaller surgery.  You still are having major surgery, just through smaller holes.  Don't overdo things.  And, stay on a pain management schedule for the first couple of days.  It's easier to stay on top of pain than to try to catch up.

Take care.
