ovarian cysts/cancer

I have had abdominal distention since May, I have gained 30 lbs., symptons; I feel a ball my rib cage on the right side, moves to the left sometimes, pressure in the center of my chest, swelling in my legs and feet, more so on my left side in the beginning, shortness of breath, nausea in the morning, the pressure in my upper abdomen is worse when constipated, and always constipated unless I use a laxative.  A Cat Scan of the pelvic and abdomen found a cyst on my ovary 4X4.  Ultrasound is showing clear cysts, no mass, 2 cysts on each ovary, this is the the first time I have missed my mentrual cycle.  Some pain on my lower right side, back.  I am advised now to see a dr. for my bowels...  my symtons do not include fever, vomiting, diarrhea.  I have constant tenderness in my ovary and naval area, a dull pinching sensation, constant dull ache, and feel full quickly when I eat...

In my case, no, the gastro doctor didn't catch it - it wasn't until I had emergency surgery. I had been suffering for a year. However, had my gastro doctor done an endoscopy procedure on me anytime during that year, they would have found it.  That is one reason why I mentioned it to you, so that you could have all options as to what your problem could be.  I found I had to be persistent with my doctors.  No, it was not life threatening and I had a 8 week recovery, but remember, I had basically two operations.  It takes time for your intestines to re-adjust. I am still recovering and have switched gastro doctors.  Good luck and keep me posted as to what it turns out to be. You can send me a note or personal message. I might not see a post. Good luck!

thank you so much.  I am going to call gastroenterologist tomorrow.  Had you seen a gastro sooner would it have spared the emergency?  After your surgery did regain full capacity of your intestines?  How long of a recovery?  Is this life threatening?

It could be your cysts causing the bloating and all the pain, but I will say that I had all the symptoms you are having and I ended up having intestinal surgery. I had bloating, shortness of breath, fullness when I tried to eat, I had gained weight, constipated all the time, nausea in the mornings especially. It turns out that I had scarred and twisted intestines that I had to have removed and resectioned. They found that ONLY after I had emergency appendectomy.  So please, when you see your gyn. tell the doctor ALL of your symptoms. You might need to see a gastroenterologist also.  Please let us know how you are doing and what the doctors say. Good luck!

Oh boy.  You are bringing back memories.  I also had to buy a new wardrobe in order to keep working.  You'll be happy to know that that weight disappers within a few weeks of surgery.  Wait what would be a normal cycle and regardless of any period get back into the doctors and push.  If the pain is too much or something changes by all means try ER.  Good luck and please keep us posted.

no testing has been done on the pressure under my rib cage... it feels like when I was 9 months pregnant and a baby's foot is there.  they have asked me if food related and it is not.  it was present when I fasted as well.

my regular doctor who also does my anual exams diagnosed the cyst immediately when she saw the pain I was in with the abdominal distention.  the same day she sent me to hospital for a cat scan of the pelvic and abdomen, and then referred me to a specialized group of doctors/obgyn.  this dr. said basically said nothing was wrong with and was I having problems at home... he said cysts come and go... I immediately called another gyno and she has been wonderful, she performed the ultrasound yesterday... she found the 2 cysts on each ovary and is concerned with the abdominal distention... everyone who knows of my situation are saying the drs. do not know what they are doing and why I am not having surgery and I am very frustrated and depressed.  this is the first time I have ever missed my menstrual cycle...  I do believe I am premenopausal... approaching 50 yrs. old.  I have no symtons of IBS except the constipation... I guess I am in the watch and wait mode and they also want to see me after my next cycle (what if that does not happen?).  I need to return to work/I am buying new suits every 2 weeks due to a 10 lb weight gain... and it is hard for me to commute... I am thinking of just admitting myself to emergency...

Cysts can cause a lot of your symptoms.  Don't let them look only at the bowels.  Many women with cysts have been told they have IBS when it was the cysts causing the problems.  What treatment plan are they doing for the cysts?  Are you in the wait a month and do another ultrasound?  Are you seeing a gyn?
