Do you still have your right ovary? If so, I think getting off the birth control is good just to see if that one ovary picks up the slack and takes over. It should. If not, after a certain amount of time, I'd say then look into replacement of some kind. You should have a proper hormone test done (saliva etc...more reliable than a random blood test).
Some doctors do want to use birth control pills to help keep cysts at bay. I'm not sure if they are that helpful or not. I had my right ovary and tube removed with the cysts in June and am very nervous that I might get another on my remaining left ovary. My doctor did not mention putting me on any birth control pills. I've tried going on them to deal with heavy periods and acne in the last 5 years but realized they were the cause of my awful migraines when I was younger. There is no need to take something that makes you feel worse when it is just a preventative measure.
