I am 42 & two months ago I had emergency lap ovary removal due to 7.5 cm complex cyst & overy torsion/necrosis. My history includes 4+ years of treatment for endometriosis & secondary infertility concluding with pg & successful pregnancy, followed by miracle "bonus" baby one year later. ;-) After last baby my periods returned when I quit breastfeeding but were 3 weeks apart painful & heavy. Immediately after surgery I had a heavy period for about a week, but I was almost due for my period anyways. 28 days later I had a normal period. Now I am a week late & after my "miracle" period I am paranoid as hell I am pg! I have negative on home pregnancy test & hubby has had vasectomy so I am probably not, but it's not helping my anxiety. I am also having hot flashes...with my history of hormonal issues I am wondering if this is perimenapause? My post op recovery has been pretty good with minimal pain/complications, except I am also having unexplained chest/shoulder pain which may/may not be related (referred pain?). Anyone with similar experience or insight? Dr has been not helpful... :-( Also, would going on pill/patch help?
It is too early to jump to the conclusion of peri-menopause. This can be just a delayed period that is related to stress of surgery. Hence if the pregnancy test is negative then you can get a delayed period. If not use of progestins may help. Consult your Doctor.
Hope this helps.
