removal of dermoid cyst and right ovary

Hi there everyone. In April i will be having a dermoid cyst and my right ovary removed . I am phobic of being put to sleep so my surgeon as agreed to preform the operation with a spinal block or epidural so that i can be awake as you would be with   a c section. As anyone else had the procedure done this way ? How was it ? any regrets about    not being put to saleep ? many thanks i am grateful for all advice and suggestions

I agree with Marie.  If you are awake and listening to the doctors, it may seem like the surgery will never end.  I know how scary it is to think about being put under, but it is just like taking a nap.  You an ask the anesthesiologist to give you a med to take the night before that will relax you and I know that when I go to have surgery, the anesthesiologist gives me a med in my IV to relax me.  It definitely does the job as I usually fall fast asleep before I even get to the OR.   This of course is a personal choice.  I'm sure which ever one you choose will be the right one for you.  Just know that we all share your fears before a surgery.  It's normal.  Good luck and I'll be praying for you.

We all have the same fears.  Actually, going to sleep is in my opinion the better way to do it.  From your point of view, the surgery will be over in a matter of seconds.  When you awaken, it will already be over and it will feel like no time passed at all.  If you were awake, the process could take hours.

I could not handle just listening to what the doctors and assistants would be saying to each other while working on me.  Much too squeemish to endure it.

Being awake isn't all that back. I was awake when I had my c-section. I have had many surgery where I was asleep and it wasn't all that bad. I think of it like a long nap. I always have my nerves up but all I do is think positive and or think of my son. Try to think about something you really enjoy. Works for some but doesn't hurt to do either. I am trying for yrs to get my right Ovary removed and now I am bugging the Doctor.

Think Positive and stuff you love

I can recall only one person that posted here months ago that she had the surgery you described. She had a positive experience.
