remove cyst?

An ovarian chyst was discovered 3/16.  I've had tests including the c-125.  The GYN says see him every 4 months or have it removed tho it is not cancer.  They also discovered an endemertial band (sp) or thickening in my uterus.  I am 67.  My mother died of ;pancreatic cancer as did 2 of her brothers.  One of my dad's sisters died of ovarian cancer.  Any way to know what to do?

Thanks for your post.  If I decide to have the cyst/ovary removed they will do an endometrial biopsy at the same time.  I have a physician friend who told me what you did that at my age the endometrium thickening (thanks for spelling it for me!) was not a good sign.
It seems that you have chosen to go with the wait and carefully watch rather than having anything removed.  At my age, I think it makes more sense to remove rather than worry.  Why would you not agree with that?

Ethicalgirl,
Did the doctor say anything to you about doing something about the endometrium thickening - an endometrial biopsy? Not to alarm you at all, but that is not common at age 67.  I am only 51 and have had to have two endometrial biopsies because mine was thickened. Both came back negative, but it is something that I will continue to monitor always. I would like to know about that and as for the cyst, not very common either at your age, so I would definitely get a 2nd opinion, especially with a gyn/onc to be on the safe side. Most cyts are benign, so am hoping you will only have good news. But please get it all checked out and let us know!

Hi,
I,too, am postmenopausal and had a cyst and ovary removed in January..At my age, I couldn't figure out any good reason to keep that ovary. I'm sorry I can't speak to the thickening in the uterus, although I did have some fluid and a couple of small fibroids which shouldn't have been there at my age (69).. They examined both .. got the fluid out, and left the fibroids.. they were small and probably had been there for ages.
Have you considered consulting with a Gyn/Onc? Not necessarily because I think you have cancer, but just out of consideration for your family history . I think that's the way I would go.. Just for peace of mind if nothing else.
When is your next appt? I'd mention that family history again to him/her and see if you can't get a referral .. And let us know how things go.

Take care,
Sandy
