Totally understandable you would be scared; I was freaked out to when I had my MRI done for something else and in my results it stated I had an cyst on my left ovary that measured 3.1cm, I went into panic not knowing about ovarian cysts.  But from what I have been reading and from assurance from my doc today, it is totally normal and women get cyst quite often.  Surgery depends on the size and how much pain it causes; as well as if you are missing menstrual cycles.  If you have not missed any menstrual cycles or if you have not experience pain before or during menstrual cycles, then very more than likely this cyst is functional, no surgery or further treatment need for the most part as it just goes away on its on.  I can't stress enough, 99% of the cysts are benign; so you do not have to worry much, but I know it hard not too.  Everything will be ok, you did the most important think checking in with you doctor.  The very best of luck to you and take care; you will be just fine.

No, don't go out and buy your gravestone yet! Amillion women have had sucessful treatment for cysts with either hormone therapy or surgery. A cat scan is simply a fancy picture of your insides, they point it to whatever area they need to get a picure of. Its close quarters inside of the machine but there is nothing to fear. Cysts are very painful and I'm sure you can't wait to get rid of it! You will be back to your old self in pretty short order. Good Luck!

No, a cyst is not in fact that serious.  Often if a woman is put onto birth-control pills, it will shrink the cyst, since they are sensitive to hormones.  If that doesn't work, they might remove it instead by surgery.  But they will try the meds first.
