scared

i was diagnosed with ovarian cyst 3 years ago. I had two one on each ovary. The one on the right went away by itself, but the left is still there. When i went to the doctor earlier this month. He did a pelvic ultra sound and ask me what do i want to do i told him i want it gone. He's the 5th doctor i've seen. the 3rd doctor i seen told me that they was going to put me on birth control pills to relax my ovaries. So now that it's getting closer to my surgery april 9th i was thinking about cancelling my surgery and tell him i want to take birth control pills and wait and see what happens. But i was told it was best to have the surgery if i planning on having children. i'm confused and scared

I am scared too!  I just found out i have a 4cm cyst on my right ovary.  I am so exhausted all the time and I know that surgery can really help with the fatigue.  Given the odds, I would get the surgery but I am not a medical professional!  I am getting mine checked out on ultrasound Wednesday.  Good luck to you.

If the cyst is still present after 3  years, it is doubtful that it will shrink on it's own. Birth control pills will halt ovulation, and without ovulation there will be no functional cyst formation. However, there is some disagreement as to whether the BC pill will shrink the cysts that are already there. How large is the cyst? What did this new Dr. say about the BC pills? If you are frightened about the surgery, please don't be. If it is a laparoscopy, it is usually done on an outpatient basis and you will be feeling fine within a week or so. I'd certainly talk it over with this new Dr. and go from there. Let us know how it goes.. and try not to worry..Good luck
