second cyst- symptoms?

by Jaxsie, Nov 14, 2008 07:08PM
Hello all,
Well - I just got back from a second ultrasound and i have another small 'complex' cyst on the other ovary now. ARGGGHHHH
The technician obviously couldn't tell me for definite that it was an endometrioma, but I am assuming that is what it is after my diagnosis form before. I had a large one removed from my left ovary 8 weeks ago and felt a bit better for a short while- then started to feel all the same pains back again, hence this scan. I have just had the technician's thoughts, i will have to wait until Wednesday to speak to my doc.

What I would like to ask you ladies is

1) this is on the right, but the pain I am feeling is mostly on the left. To be honest it is all over the pelvis, but mostly left- has anyone else had this transference?

2) the pains I am feeling are worse than the other cyst, but this one is smaller - I have more pain in my legs and across the thigh crease than before, could this still be pressure form such a small cyst (2 cm )?

3) I have been on birth control to prevent endo growth and more cysts for two and a bit weeks - could this be causing the ovary pain as it gets used to hormones?

The doc removed all the endo form the ovary and said there were very small adhesions in my pelvis which he did not remove, but he didn't think they would cause much pain and it would only be around my period- but what I am experiencing doesnt match any of this. He was an endo specialist, so I trust him, but now I'm at a loss. Just to complicate things, the op was done in the UK and I am back in the US, so I have a different doc here.

sorry for the long post, I'm just a little grumpy right now!

Hi,
I'd be grumpy too !!! One question.. did this "new " cyst show up on any TVUS's you had previous to surgery for the first one? But, for your answers and I'm sure you'll have other replies..
1..Yes, I have heard of pains being on the "opposite" side
   2.  I think it depends on the location of the cyst. I was told that cysts such as the one I had didn't cause pain.. phooey... Odd that once it was removed, the pain went away !.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. Are they planning on the "watch and wait" routine for a few months? or are they suggesting surgery?

Keep us posted,
Sandy

In the early days of my cysts the pain was very much on the opposite side and in the middle of my abdomen.  Later it settled in the appropriate place.  Some smaller cysts can cause more pain than larger ones, all depends on where it is situated.  I'm so sorry you are already going through this again.  I have pretty much constant paranoia that I'm getting one on my remaining ovary whenever I feel anything remotely like my last one.

You have every right to be grumpy.  I haven't heard of birth control causing issues when getting started.  I think you might have to ask your doctor that one.

Please keep us posted and I hope all goes well with this one.

Thank you ladies, I am really in absolute agony- this is way worse than before the op. I know I have endo which is supposed to be painful, but this has all got worse since surgery. The pain today is really shap stabbing which doubles me up and the intermittant dull pain as usual. I have never had anything like this and I am really getting to the end of my tether. Bleeding for three weeks due to starting th pill and in pain for the last 6 weeks. I was lucky enough to have a total of 14 days relatively pain free since surgery. Oh I am so sick of this.

thanks for letting me vent

since I had my surgery on two ovarian cysts I have had more pain.  I think that due to scar tissue, or other surgery related things, the pain before my periods, and if i have a small cyst is heightened.  however, i do think that it is important you go to the doctor if you are feeling excruciating pain.  you must always listen to your body, and if you are in a lot of pain, it could be a sign that something is wrong and needs immediate attention.  i know your frustration.  i am dealing with a another cyst on my ovary again, which is supposed to be very small, but is causing me pain.  i have no idea how a doctor expects you to just live with this pain, it is ridiculous... but what can we do.  if i were you i would look into the benefits of holistic and natural ways to cure ovarian cysts.  i have started a holistic program that seems to be helping me, and also making me feel better all around.  Go to ovariancystsnomore.com, i think that is the site.  anyway, i hope you feel better.

If your pain has increased like this please go to the ER and get it checked out.  At the very least you will get something for the pain and possibly some peace of mind in knowing what is going on.

Thanks for the comments, I got some pain pills from my Gyn and these help- for a while, but the pain keeps coming back. their responses have been that it is probably the endo- and I have to wait to see what she says about the cyst on tuesday. Oh- and it was not there prior to surgery- the doc even confirmed my right ovary was completely fine.
I will keep everyone update, take care all.
