total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy

hi again, i went to see gyno to day and now waiting for date for op.
i have a 10 cm which has got bigger they say on my left ovary...
but they want to do a....... total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.....
i am sure it is because of my age which is 56yrs... gyno did say the cyst could turn cancerous even tho all
blood test are showing clear.... i also have adesions which are stuck to my bowel and bladder which need removing
before hysterectomy  but at same time as the op.....  just wanted to know if anyone here has had the same thing done
and any info would be good as when gyno asked if i had any questions my mind was numb, was in shock i think.

Desparateforhelp94,
Sounds like you have been dealing with alot. It is 4:20am here...insomnia seems to be a big part in it. It has been a little over 2months for me. I also have bad body and muscle aches. My doctor put me on estrogen 1mg tabs the day after surgery. I have switched over to the patch just this week. Supposed to be healthier because I does not filter through the liver. I have to tell you...there really is a big change right around the time you are due for your 6 week post-op! Really feel like a normal person again. Biggest part for me was being able to stand and walk straight again. My scar goes up to my belly button. Just know it will get better and allow yourself to rest when you need it. Still seem to have those days when I just could really use a nap! Good luck!

hi there, only had 2 scans ( ultra sounds)
the second did show that the cyst had grown... my surgery is set for oct 12th ... had pre-assesment done in case there is a cancellation then its mine.
also been told with everything being taken away they will have to do a vaginal cuff operation... plus adhesions... then hysterectomy.. so its like having 3 ops in one.
i am very scared to say the least.
i would push gyno for op now ... why delay the inevitable , get it done with sooner rather than later.
good luck . xx

Hi Daisy
Have you had your op date yet?  Can you tell me if they have been watching your cyst to know its got bigger and for how long?  I've got 25x20 with solid components and raised CA125 level.  I'm 53 PM.  Gyn is discussing with surgeon but may recommend watchful waiting with repeat US and CA in 8-10 weeks.  I would rather have it removed now if there is a chance of it getting bigger and needing surgery anyway.
Best wishes to you with your surgery and I hope you have a quick recovery it must be horrible waiting for your date.

I have had TERRIBLE periods for years!  A couple procedures and minor surgeries later......I had a total abdominal hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries and tubes as well....3 weeks ago.  I am 51 years old, with a strong family history of cancer....so....I opted to have my ovaries removed as well.  I was essentially "done" with them...right?    I had NO idea I would feel SOOO HORRIBLE for sooooo long.  I feel it has to do with my hormone levels.  Shortly aftermy surgery, I was started on Estrogen 1 mg oral tabs. I cont to feel AWFUL...exhausted, insomnia, cloudy, flu like symptoms, horrible digestive issues...ie....tons of nausea.  i lost 6 lbs.....now down to 102 lbs...which is kinda puney for me.  I returned to the Dr. He doubled my estrogen dose...WHOA!!  I felt worse with horrific headaches in addition.  I think that was overkill!  I read that the normal dose for an oophrectomy (ovary removal) was 1.25 mg orally, daily.  Been taking that dose for last 2 days.  Cont to feel AWFUL!  How LONG DOES THIS TAKE?!   and....are you on  hormone replacement therapy. I want and need to feel BETTER!  I have to go back to work soon!  ugh  =(

Hi Daisy,

I have had TERRRIBLE periods for years!  A couple procedures and minor sureries later.....I just had a total abd hysterectomy with removal of both ovaries and my tubes. (3 weeks ago). I am 52 years old with a strong family history of Cancer, so...I opted to have my ovaries removed as well....felt I was primarily "done" with them so to say.  I had NO idea I would feel so HORRIBLE for soooo long.  I honestly feel it had to do with my hormone levels.  Shortly after my surgery I was started on Estrogen 1mg.  I cont to feel  AWFUL....exhausted, insomnia, cloudy, flu like, horrible digestive issues   ie...tons of nausea.  I have lost 6 lbs.   I now weigh 102 lbs which is kinda puney for me.  I returned to the Dr.  He doubled my Estrogen....WHOA!!  I felt worse!  Migraines headaches etc... I think it was overkill.  Read normal dose is 1.25 mg.  Been taking that for last couple days and STILL feel awful!  How long does this TAKE....AND are you on HRT?

I had a 20cm cyst on my left ovary. Before surgery I did have an elevated OVA 1 test result so the doctor explained that if the frozen section came back borderline or higher he would be doing a TAH which is what happened. It came back borderline. Later pathology put it at stage 1c. "C" because it had ruptured. My surgery was July 21st. and am now doing just great! Incision goes to my bellybutton so stomach still not very strong but at the 6 week mark...you really start to feel normal again. I am 44 with no history of cyst. Just remember to write down any questions you may have. The brain has a way of shutting down on us when dealing with stress. Plus it helps to take someone with you if you can to any dr. appointments. Another set of ears to hear and remember what the dr. is saying! When is your surgery? Have you seen an oncologist or is the gyno doing it? Good thoughts coming your way for a fast recovery! Keep us updated...xo
