ultrasound results

Hi all!  I am 37 years old and went to see my Primary Care Physician for a period that continued for 7 days beyond its normal 7 day cycle, accompanied with bloating, cramping, lower back pain, fatigue and general malaise.  My doc sent me for complete CBC, Estradiol, THS blood work (all normal) and a transvaginal ultrasound.  The radiology findings are "1. Slighly heterogeneous uterous but no focal of normality is identified.  2. Left ovarian hemorrhagic cyst.  Follow-up ultrasound after 2-3 cycles is recommended."  My doc just mentioned the "bloody type cyst" and the follow up ultrasound...nothing else.  Is there anything I can do about my symptoms?  Should I be concerned about the findings of the ultrasound beyond waiting a few months for a follow-up ultrasound?  Should I schedule an appointment with a gyn specialist sooner than that?

I appreciate any guidance beyond what my doc has provided.
Thanks,
Heidi

Thanks for the feedback.  The cyst is noted as 3.8 x 3.4 cm.  I am actually curious if anyone else also had the presence of a "slightly heterogeneous uterous" in ultrasound findings.

The complete description in the radiology report reads as follows:
"Uterus measures 6.8 x 3.8 x 4.9 cm. The uterus is slightly heterogeneous but no focal abnormalities are identified.  There is a small amount of fluid in the cervical region.  The endometrial echo complex measures 6.4 mm.

The right ovary measures 2.2 x 0.9 x 1.0 cm.
The left ovary measures 4.6 x 2.9 x 3.8 cm.
Within the left ovary there is a hypoechoic mass with internal echoes.  This measures 3.8 x 3.4 cm and has a typical appearance of a hemorrahagic cyst.

No free fluid.

Impression:
1. Slightly heterogeneous uterus but no focal of normality is identified.
2. Left ovarian hemorrhagic cyst.  Follow-up ultrasound after 2-3 cycles is recommended."

I am planning to make an appt. with gyn specialist on Monday if symptoms persist.

Thanks again,
Heidi

Your test results sound promising.  Did they mention the size of your cyst?  It sounds like it is a simple cyst and they do usually go away on their own with time.  Sometimes, birth control pills are effective at helping the cyst go away in a sooner time frame.  It sound like you are in pain and so I think it would be wise to go see a gynecologist and get some help for your symptoms.  You may have an underlying condition like endometriosis that is causing pain.  Hopefully, a gyn can help you find a something that helps relieve your symptoms.  I would definitely go see one before the scheduled follow-up.  But, it doesn't sound like your cyst is worrisome for malignancy or that it is large enough to be of concern at this point.  Good luck to you!
