what are the risks of ovary(both) removal after menopause

Hi Eileen611,I am 55 years old have had 2 csecs and also am post menopausal.   I just had both ovaries removed with the tubes, done on an outpatient scenario.  When the doctor went in lapro, he did find that I had 7 tumors that has basically been showing up as one large tumor on the ultrasound, there also was quite a bit of scar tissue from the csecs, but that seemed to be no problem during the surgery.
the only issue I have had was quite simply the gas they put into your stomach so they can see inside. I had a difficult time sleeping, and turning in bed was quite a chore.  I have not had to take any pain meds at all except some tylenol.  My dilemma now is I wonder what will be the side effects if any, since i am post menopausal when having this surgery. I read so much pro and con of removing a good organ, i am fearful I made a bad decision. i worry about the heart disease protection that i have seen estrogen provides, yet my mother had breast cancer, so it seemed like I had no choice in the matter...anyone with symptoms in post meno women having the surgery please reach out and also let me know when to expect the changes to start rearing their ugly heads.. I had no  problems getting though natural meno, so I am hoping this will still stand true.

Even when ovaries are removed after menopause, the symptoms can be fairly severe. That's because the ovaries produce hormones our whole lives. They merely change their functions from "exocrine" (reproductive) to "endocrine." Unfortunately, very few gynecologists inform their patients of this important fact.

I was not menopausal but almost 50 when my ovaries and uterus were unnecessarily removed. Although it took probably close to two months before I started having typical menopausal symptoms, I felt different almost immediately. My personality went from being happy and vibrant to feeling very flat / blah. And then it went downhill quickly from there even after I started taking estrogen. I didn't realize either that HRT can take a bit of trial and error to find one that works. I did finally pull myself out of a deep black hole but I still regret having trusted my doctor.

I wish you the best in moving forward.
