EMDR

hI, I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder in 2007 following distressing events in 2005/2006 and am only now being offered EMDR.  i'm abit hesitant about it as it apparently makes you re-live the distressing events again.  trouble is, the sleep deprivation from the pts (watching the 'videos' of the same events each night) is really becoming a problem so i've got to try something.  my dr is particularly unhelpful and has merely 'labelled' me with pts and - despite all my requests - has done nothing at all.  the practitioner who's able to do the EMDR was arranged through another source after i sought counselling myself - but was told by the counselling group that i was apparently 'too distressed' for counselling??????? tired from 'chasing my tail' to get some help with it and with little/no sleep!!

don't know if it's connected to the lack of sleep, probably likely, but i've recently started fainting and i'm getting really worried.

any advice?  thanks to whoever

I also have a low blood pressure and recently on advice  started to take Adrenal support capsules, they made me feel really 'normal'again, now you may want to get your self checked out more  for Thyroid or Adrenal Insufficiency, I  do my own research .it isnt for every one but  its up to you, your symptoms, sound similar  not eating will have lowered your blood sugar.,you dont need Meds unless they tell you you need them.Good luck you'll figure it out ,,check out some of the other forums we have for folks with similar symptoms, thats what I have done with some success.

thank you for your message.  tried quite afew counsellors but was unsuccessful - the last counselling group felt that i needed more counselling than they were able to offer, especially with the level of distress the event had caused.  the nighttime 'videos' ensure that i have had little/no restful sleep since the event. the recent faints may have occured as the poor sleep has continued for an unacceptable amount of time - although i have regularly advised gps i haven't been eating or sleeping well at all since the event happened. apparently my blood pressure was low after the last faint.  i've not been offered any medication at all, the gp surgery is partiuclarly unhelpful - the 'best' advice so far from them is 'if you're tired, don't drive' and my fainting is apparently due to 'calcium in your ear'!!

hi sue 14 welcome to our forum, we have heard recently about EMDR and if you read the other posts you will see they found them successful with positive results, did you ask the counselling group what they meant by 'too distressed,' sounds like you are very stressed out and yes I believe this could cause fainting however you should get it checked out, are you eating okay as low blood sugar can cause light headed and dizziness and possible fainting, how is your blood pressure. Are you taking any Meds could cause insomnia ? You could really do with your Doctor giving you further information,,Good luck
