Just found out i have PTSD and need advice

Hi everyone,
After 11 years of thinking and being diognosed with Bipolar ,have now found out that the psychitrist was wrong and i suffer from PTSD and have for 11 years after biting the bullet and going to one of the most qualifed psycs in my city.
I am stunned and am not to sure where to start with treatment and not to sure i know much about ptsd.
I know i have dpressive episodes, can't handle loud noises ( which is hard with a child ),don't like being touched or hugged without warning, racing thoughts, nightmares, flashbacks, paranoid, erratic sleep and eating and inability to hold down a job long term.
The most confussing thing is most articles i have read have told me it is a short time frame to recovery.........just wanted to know what treatment people use ? have spent 10 years in therapy and feel all talked out and still crazy :(

Hi there,
I am not surprised you spent time spinning your wheels with the wrong diagnosis. I was dx'd with Borderline, until my BF, who has combat PTSD, said "you do alot of the stuff I do".
I now have the correct dx. I have weaned off all meds. I am in EMDR and DNMS therapies which are working nicely.
A large part of my wheel spinning, came from not understanding what was happening to me.
My therapist told me to watch the movie "What the BLEEP Do We Know". I did, over and over and over. It changed my life watching that movie. It gave me a real perspective on the addictions, we all deal with on a daily basis.
And PTSD is just our body's addiction to the cascade of chemicals that is released when we have a peticular emotion... memory... thought...

newly dx.  question.  what does zoloft do for you?  do you feel better?  less depressed?  able to not think about the past so much, sleep, be happier?  I hope so, but if no, why take meds?

Just curious as I really do not want to add to my medicine cabinet.

Thank you.
