I believe they are the same thing, I guess I could be wrong but I truely think that narcotics and opiates are the same thing just different category names.

Hi Jonny,

Opiates and narcotics are different terms for medication that mean the same thing. They are interchangeable.

Narcotics work at opioid receptors, where they interfere and stop the transmission of pain messages to the brain. That may be the reasons they are also called opiates.

So Darvocet is a opiate and/or a narcotic. It is not a very strong narcotic.
