24/7 headaches

My mom is a 55 year old woman who has suffered DAILY migraines for the last 33 years. She's tried it all, and no one seems to find the reason for the pain or a cure for it. She's ready to try anything and we are now trying to find natural alternatives for medicine as she does not want to keep swallowing pills that don't help at all. Any suggestion is welcome. Thank you!

It sounds to me like your mother has Chronic Daily Migraine, or else Status Migrainous, which is exactly what I have. The sad fact is, there's not always a cure.

However, I have found that acupuncture can help bring my pain levels down. I also get a weekly therapeutic massage that helps relax all my muscles that tense up from the pain and trigger more pain with muscle tension headaches. Also, the massages break up the lactic acid that builds in the muscles when they're constantly stressed. Lactic acid will make the muscles tense even more, and thus create a vicious cycle. My massage therapist has been able to break a bad migraine and let my pain return to the baseline 6/10 on numerous occasions, and I swear by her.

Your mother is truly lucky to have you looking out for her. Good luck to you both and keep us posted,

~Dame

Thank you all very much. Mom has done the Botox shots and they didn't help... she looked younger though :)  We'll keep searching and I will talk to her about getting massages, hope that will help a bit. Thanks for your kind words and support!

Botox is actually a semi-normal procedure to prevent/help treat migraines. I have a friend in her 20s who gets them. Talking to your mom's doc about trying Botox might well be worth a shot (no pun intended).

This is going to sound extremely strange, but I worked with a 45+ year old woman who had chronic migraines and she heard about Botox being helpful so she tried it.  She said the first injection helped to a small degree, but the second stopped her migraines altogether.  She continues to get Botox every 3-4 months and has not experienced any migraines for 5 years now, nor does she have any frown lines!  :)  I have since read artcles on the internet and in a health magazine about the possibility of Botox being of help but have nothing other than her word to actually back it up.  I wish you luck in your quest to find help for your mom, and hope she finds relief from her pain.

Hi..so sorry u mom has had this issue as it is a diff one to live with.

Has she had a MRI of her brain to see if she has nething going on other than the HA's?
She should also try to look at her labs to be sure her vitamin and minerals levels r where they should be.
