Anyone on lamictal and lyrica?

I have been on lyrica 150mg twice a day with opiates for neuropathic pain..
I have developed a severe epigastric pain..x rays show nothing but the pain is worse than the neuropathy pain I am decreasing my hydromorphone 60mg/24hr dose by 20%daily..
I went to see a neurologist today who wants to have a nerve block put in my brain to decrease trigeminal and shooting eye pain..I also have a bad shooting clitoral pain called dysthetic vulvadynia and a Pedundal  nerve block might help that...any nerve block experience also?
She wants me on
Lamictal or jbaclofen as she knows the epigastric pain is causing me to have possible narcotic bowel syndrome or opiate induced hyperalgesia...
Just wanted to know if anyone else takes these meds..
She wants to start me on lamictal xr 50mg.
Thanks for any help..

Good to hear from you. I am posted on the chronic pain couch with some really weird stories. I have had the nerve blocks but the nerves do go back over time. Would love to hear what your neurologist has to say. I'm all ears. Keep me posted. The more we learn the more we can pass on.

I tried Lyrica for a short time (twice over a period of years) and had a reaction. I could not sleep due to this drug. I noticed problems with this drug that I did not have with any other medication. I stopped the Lyrica and went back to my doctor and reported these symptoms. Of course, she was dismayed and did not know what to offer except morphine. At any rate, I went to a new pain management doctor. My results are posted on the pain management couch website. For me, that is what worked.

Hi
Thank you again for answering my question about lyrica.
As a recently retired pharmacist ..(I rarely mention this)
I do want current info about the questions I ask from  devotedvDrs.  as yourself and patients with experiences,,
I have been witness, consultant, etc for so many new  ...ie beta blockers, etc....NSAIDs, oh my goodness..the good bad and ugly of recalls...since 1970 in pharmacy school....
The emerging
new "unlabeled indications"  for pre-existing drugs... ..and liabilities that some ensued ....
Prescription meds for years sudenly moved to OTC status...
The advertising of prescriptions in magazines with pages of small print side effects or those on television with fast spoken side effects...oh my!
The previous copious amounts of dangerous new wonders promoted and freely given to doctors by non-medical- profession drug company reps..
Lyrica does help my neuropathy pain..but my stomach is awful.
The contrary indication and side effects are starting to become more evident and til your answer I had not realized..
but for its terrible withdrawals..the gastritis issues...I would not have known.
I did more research about lawsuits....
This medication( in my opinion)will be labeled with intent of prescription by specialty..I read it might be moved to a scheduled prescription..
Hopefully it have more definitive side effects and Specific indications..that doctors must acknowledge.to better evaluate its use for their patients.
I read that you are a female specialist..
I have non-diabetic neuropathys due to serious falls,..working while in pain and ignoring  emerging exacerbations of sacral plexus, lumbar, etc.but the worst now is not responding to a lidoderm patch I cut into thirds..
I hate having dysthetic vulvadynia..I could put the needle on THE NERVE myself..Pedundal nerve app of tens unit helps..yikes!
The diabetic neuropathy pain situation is at a rampage through- out the world...
I lived in Kuwait for 3yrs 2001 thru 2003 and three huge research centers were devoted to diabetes..
.
I was a consultant pharmacist and had students, research professors and the inquiring public ..as my search engine...The computer and 'windows' was being developed at my back door.literally...
I told some reps that their products should and would be recalled..and often told doctors of my concerns...I was correct too many times.
Some meds in 70's and 80's in particular...we're thrown on the market because of money and greed..too many suffered the circumstances..
Now the r&d of many needed meds are being delayed...
Such is the practice ..
Thank you for letting me rant!

Thank you so very much! last fall. I went down to 50mg last fall.
I had told him that I was going to do this....it was very had to go down by 1/3 dose every 2 weeks..
I have a kidney specialist that ....wanted me off of it..
I have an autoimmune kidney disease ...creatinine 1 ...so I see him every
6 months..my pain specialist said no please stay on it..
I had a raging thyroiditis problem that my primary care doctor had not realized...after my post cancer dr saw me for a regular 6 months visit..
He saw my white count up and he did a pet scan of thyroid, etc..and ran a thyroid antibody test..I had nodules which after an ultrasound...caused a terrible sore throat and nodules were examined by an endocrinologist and I had hashimoto's autoimmune thyroiditis,,
I even saw my dentist and he sent me to endodontist for what was diagnosed as neuropathy pain..
when I finally saw my pain dr..I see him every month..he put me back on 150 mg lyrica..because of all the pains centered in left facial area...and within
2 days pain was 50% gone from tooth and eye throbbing gone for awhile..but it is back now..
I am so glad that you told me that it could agravate gastric problems also...
Thank u so very much! Blessings!
I went

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
Lyrica itself can cause neuropathic pain. This could be the reason for the eye pain and pain in other parts of body. The drug can also cause constipation, flatulence, gastric ulcer and gastritis and this can cause epigastric pain. Please discuss with your doctor and see if taking antacids and probiotics will help you or not. The drug can cause serious side effects in the eye and this can also cause pain. Maybe stopping the drug and starting another will help you. Do discuss this with your doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
