At first it was a mild Sciatic Nerve injury, but now both my hips/buttocks region hurt, what can it be?

Well, to begin my name it Kendre and I am 18 years old. A few months ago I was having a lot of pain in my left leg. I did some research and all of it led me to believe I had a Sciatic nerve injury. I made a doctors appt. and of course the doctor said that was what it is. So I had some anti-inflammatory pills to get the swelling down. I was supposed to have a check up ...but I didn't go. I still had the hip pain while on vacation, and when i got back. I was not able to do any physical activity at all, because that is what my doctor told me not to do. But now, a few months later I have the pain in my right hip/buttock too, and I really don't understand how. I have not done any physical activities because I am 2 months pregnant (with my lovely boyfriend, who cannot wait to be a father), and just getting up off the couch, or getting up from sleeping in the morning I feel that I cannot get up at all. I have to hang on to something to hold myself up because I find my hips too weak from hurting.
I do not think it is anything sexual because my boyfriend lost his virginity to me, and I unfortunately did not, there was one other 4 years ago, but that was a mistake because I was not ready, but that guy 4 years ago had a big sexual history...so maybe? I don't know
I have an appt for my body next week and to check up on the baby, my first check up...so i hope everything is okay. and i will have to tell my gynecologist about my hips/buttock pains in both legs.
but, please help! comments would be appreciated.

SIJ problems are very difficult to diagnosis. It is often over looked and under diagnosed. Good luck to you.

I will look forward to your updates.

Thankyou Tuckamore, I believe that everything you are saying fits perfectly with how I feel. Mine did start in my left leg, and now in both legs. It has not gone away for a couple days, and every day it gets worse. Right now it hurts to walk, sit, or lay down, and my low back pain has been a problem lately too. I will have to look up the SIJ Dysfunction and talk to my doctor about it, I have an appointment Tuesday for Ultra Sound and I believe a check up, so hopefully he could tell me that is what it is, and nothing worse.
Thank you for your help, and I will update you on the status of my hip/buttock and low back pains.

Sincerely,
Kendre

Hi Kendre,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us at MedHelp. I am sorry to hear about your hip and buttock pain.

As you know sciatic pain is a symptoms and not a condition. Because you are now experiencing pain in both buttocks and hips, in my opinion it is less likely that your spine is producing your pain.

As I read your thread heading and before I read it in it's entirety the first thing that came to mind was a SIJ (sacroiliac joint) problem. I have had it for a number of years. Mine began first in my left buttock and hip and now is in both. It is fairly common in the last portion of the second or third trimester of pregnancy. However you do not have to be pregnant to have this dysfunction. I am not and am disabled due to it.

It causes sciatic pain, hip pain and low back pain. Everyone is different and I am not saying that this is your diagnosis. It is something you might want to consider. SIJ Dysfunction is often over looked and under diagnosed. There is a lot of information in the internet regarding this condition. Some, if not most is reliable though other articles are not so accurate.

I hope you will let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates with interest. Best of luck to you and your baby.

Take Care,
Tuck
